Manage all quality assurance activities for the company. The Quality Assurance Manager will perform duties that support the company's QA and operational key indicators as well as verify all products to ensure Food Safety, Quality, and SQF code standards and specifications are met. Works directly with manufacturing to schedule and control inspection activities and to enforce requirements as specified by raw materials, products and packaging specifications and regulatory agencies. Work with other departments to establish processes and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements for food manufacturing and compliance to certifications on quality and food safety programs.
Essential Position Functions and Duties
Establishment, development, and management of the quality department.
Develop and implement the quality assurance and food safety processes, procedures, and standards.
Establish and manage internal audit programs for the manufacturing plant.
Network with industry organizations to provide addition company resources and to stay ahead of changes within the regulatory agencies and industry.
Communicate and coordinate with customers and suppliers regarding quality related issues.
Management and resolution of customer/consumer complaints. Interacts with all departments to determine, resolve quality related problems, and implement corrective actions.
Help review production and quality report/records daily to assure compliance and be aware of any quality deviations.
Communicate hold and released of all finished products.
Reviews and approves raw materials and labels.
Manage customer specifications and requirements on customer portals /websites.
Oversee SQF code as SQF practitioner and implement and maintain the SQF systems relevant to the scope of certification. HACCP plans, safety plans, food defense plan, food fraud, PRP's, corrective action program, GMP program, pest control, etc.
Manage and participate in all audits, external and internal.
Manage and maintain kosher and gluten free certification.
Input in the development of new technical procedures, laboratory technique and procedures.
Participate in projects with other departments for continuous improvement.
Plant recall coordinator, SQF practitioner, PCQI, member of HACCP/food safety and crisis management team.
All other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Food Science or food related field.
Minimum 7+ years' experience in food production or pharmaceutical industry
10+ years of management experience within quality assurance department
Must have better processing school certification.
Must have SQF auditing experience, strong documentation generation and tracking skills.
Start-up company experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint-intermediate
