Job Description:

Position Summary: The Chief Tax Director, Tax will be responsible for the strategic planning, direction, and execution of the company's global tax function. You will oversee all aspects of tax policy, tax planning, and tax compliance to optimize the company's tax position and ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Further, you will play a critical role in the company's financial strategy and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Tax Planning:
  • Develop, advocate, and implement tax strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives.
  • Advise senior management on the tax implications of various business activities and transactions.
  • Position company to budget for and comply with changing tax laws and business circumstances. Identify and promote opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies across the local to global spectrum.
  • Collaborate with Haier Parent to integrate global tax strategies.
  1. Tax Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and international tax laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all tax returns and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Manage and mitigate tax risks and ensure tax reporting reconciles to accounting records and is supported by substantial authority.
  1. Tax Policy and Risk Management:
  • Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company.
  • Lead tax audits and manage relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.
  1. Leadership and Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the tax department, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Build and maintain a strong, cohesive team capable of supporting the company's growth and complexity.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including finance, legal, and operations, to support cross-functional initiatives.
  1. Financial Analysis and Reporting:
  • Provide tax-related insights and analysis to support the company's financial planning and decision-making.
  • Partner with the CFO and other senior leaders to develop and execute financial strategies.
  • Prepare and present reports as needed for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  1. Mergers and Acquisitions:
  • Member of BD Council, in charge of leading tax due diligence and structuring for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions.
  • Evaluate the tax implications of potential deals and develop strategies to optimize tax outcomes.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; MS in Taxation or JD preferred.
  • CPA or licensed attorney.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in tax, with significant practice with top tier advisory firms and multinational corporations.
  • Deep understanding of federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations. Practice areas inclusive of income, VAT, sales, and property tax.
  • Proven experience in implementing tax planning, M&A transactions, managing large scale compliance, and directly defending tax return positions against tax authority challenges.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Practiced experience employing data analytics and AI tools to advance tax-based projects.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt complex tax concepts to engage multi disciplined professionals.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional team's external advisors, Haier Smart Home, and Haier Group global teams.
