Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes validated laboratory processes to conduct analysis of patient specimens using microbiology and molecular diagnostic technology leading to a disease diagnosis.
Develop work schedules for Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
Conduct, review, and report molecular diagnostic tests.
Perform managerial responsibilities include supervise Lab Tech I and II personnel, coordinate with Head of Microbiology to develop strategic plans and processes for section, teach, train, and provide feedback to laboratory personnel, inventory management, and Quality System Management.
Verify and document findings.
Perform special projects and diagnostic research as determined by Head of Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics.
Recognizes, documents, and provides input to correct substandard quality.
Develops worksheets for patient specimen and coordinates activities with the BVC DNA Diagnostic section with Head of Microbiology.
Develops work schedules, trains new laboratory personnel.
Operates sensitive scientific equipment during the analytical process.
Verifies Laboratory Technician I & II personnel test results and documents findings in laboratory information management system.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Master of Science degree in a related field of work.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
Two years of related work experience.

Ability to plan and make decisions often without instruction or supervision
Proficient computer skills, internet research, and the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs or equivalent and email.
Candidates require proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and basic bioinformatics tools; technical writing; method development, optimization, and validation. Experience analyzing Sanger or whole genome sequencing data. Laboratory experience and knowledge gained outside of degree requirements is preferred.
Master of Science degree in Biology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology preferred.
Physical Demands:
Handling of hazardous materials, biological contaminants, and controlled substances; strong pungent odors; handling animal, environmental, and plant specimens.
Work Hours:
Will be required to respond on weekends, holidays and after hours for weekend duty, seasonal overload and emergencies.
