General Description

The Quantitative Analyst plays an analytical role in researching, designing, implementing, and deploying data products and services as well as ensuring data quality across Popular’s Financial Crimes Compliance function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use advanced analytical tools such as SAS Enterprise Guide and Business Objects, as well as script-based languages such as SQL, R, Python, and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
  • Gather data from multiple sources and ensure its accuracy and completeness. When necessary, clean and preprocess data to ensure it is ready for analysis.
  • Record data quality checks, issues, and resolutions. Maintain documentation on data quality metrics and improvement initiatives. When necessary, open requests with other departments or divisions for data improvements and revisions.
  • Create comprehensive reports and dashboards (PowerBI) to present findings and insights. This includes the use of visualization tools to make data easily understandable for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other division members as well as stakeholders and subject matter experts across the bank to ensure Popular’s compliance data is accurate, consistent, complete, and up to date. Also, collaborate with other departments to understand their data needs and provide analytical support in matters related to Financial Crimes Compliance.
  • Ensure Popular’s Data Products and Services related to the Financial Crimes Compliance function are well documented, comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements, including:
    • Create comprehensive reports that summarize analytical findings, including methodologies, data sources, and conclusions.
    • Maintain code/scripts (SQL, R, Python, and/or VBA) with clear and comprehensive comments within code to explain the purpose, logic, and functionality. Also maintain version control (TortoiseSVN) with detailed commit messages and change logs.
    • Prepare detailed procedure manuals and user guides for new data products and services, or processes. These manuals must serve as tutorials and walkthroughs, helping new team members understand and execute the processes.
  • Assist in the examination of the unit's products and services by providing auditors with access to relevant data, documentation, and files. Also, participate in validation meetings and address any questions raised during the examination process.

Education

Bachelor's or master's degree in economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics or other related quantitative discipline.

Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in a quantitative discipline with at least three years related experience; or master’s degree (M.A.) in a quantitative discipline or a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with at least two years of related experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following software programs: R programming language, SAS, SQL, Python, or other related software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Some knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions regulations is preferred.
  • Fully bilingual, English and Spanish.
