Position Summary

The purchasing manager is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities, including supplier management, material sourcing, and procurement strategy development. This role ensures that purchasing strategies align with company objectives, fosters supplier relationships, and leads a team to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets. The purchasing manager works closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, and operations, to support business needs and drive continuous improvement in the supply chain. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of buyers and purchasing coordinators, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance.
  • Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring timely and accurate procurement to support production schedules.
  • Establish purchasing standards and vendor-specific strategies to consolidate spend and leverage vendor strengths.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to drive cost reductions and minimize risk.
  • Work with the supplier development team to direct supplier evaluations and report on supplier performance.
  • Establish and manage a supplier performance program, including dashboards, ratings, and quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with key suppliers.
  • Develop and enhance sourcing strategies for maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) purchasing and on-site vendor-managed inventory programs.
  • Ensure uninterrupted material availability for new product introductions (NPIs) by aligning requirements with risk and cost goals.
  • Identify, create, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Establish departmental key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor, and report performance data.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all purchasing activities.
  • Resolve material availability issues and respond to daily inquiries and conflicts from suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present purchasing reports and metrics to upper management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience leading a purchasing/supply chain team in a manufacturing environment; experience in electronics manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a large supply base, developing high-performing teams, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills with proven ability to drive cost savings.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical component types, values, packages, and specifications is a plus.
  • Experience with PRMS/AS400 ERP systems is a plus.
