ORDINANCE OFFICER The Charter Township of Ypsilanti is seeking energetic, self-motivated, positive attitude individuals to join a growing team responsible for municipal code enforcement. Individual would perform general ordinance enforcement duties and will enforce property maintenance codes during scheduled rental housing and vacant building inspections, to achieve goals and objectives of the organization. The employee will investigate, listen and find resolution to community ordinance violations. Qualifications and KSA's for Employment The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations. • Organizational skills with the ability to read, research, comprehend, and interpret municipal ordinances. • Knowledge of the streets, addresses, and businesses located in the Township preferred but not required. • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate reports and records. • Excellent customer services skills with the ability to communicate well in person, in writing and via telephone. • Ability to work independently and manage daily schedules to meet work assignment expectations. • Ability to maintain tact and diplomacy when dealing with members of the public to represent the Township in a positive manner. • Ability to be energetic and self-motivated while maintaining a positive attitude with supervisors and coworkers. • Skill in the use of computers and accessories, word processing software, and data collection and reporting software. Working knowledge of BS&A and MS Word software preferred but not required. • Physical ability to traverse uneven surfaces, perform visual inspections, operate a motor vehicle, repetitively maneuver in/out of a motor vehicle on a daily basis, post notices on buildings and in the ground, and speak clearly. • Willingness to enter houses and commercial buildings containing blighted conditions using appropriate protective gear when necessary. • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. • Municipal code enforcement experience is preferred but not required. • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
