Job Description
WHO WE'RE SEEKING: Grossmont College seeks academic professionals who are dedicated to equitable and superior student success outcomes for all students. We are looking for candidates who will demonstrate a history and willingness to continue to learn about varied, relevant teaching and learning practices, assessment strategies, and educationally sound supports that will sustain a diverse and changing student body and college service area.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. Instructors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, online assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Any Bachelor's Degree and two years of professional experience in American Sign Language, OR
Any Associate's Degree and six years of professional experience in American Sign Language OR
The equivalent

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants must demonstrate:
Possession of native fluency in American Sign Language.
Teaching or training experience in American Sign Language at the community college or university level.
Knowledge of curriculum development in American Sign Language or related field to meet the needs of all students including diverse student populations.
Experience teaching vocabulary and linguistic aspects of American Sign Language.
Ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to develop program curriculum of Deaf people, deafness and its impact upon Deaf people, Deaf culture and community, and familiarity with current literature related to the Deaf culture.
Ability to successfully instruct, motivate and manage community college classes with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, disability, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.
Evidence of effective organizational skills, writing skills and communication skills.
Knowledge of instructional technology used with American Sign Language.
Ability and willingness to develop computer assisted curriculum, and to use Canvas in an instructional setting. Canvas certification will be required before the start of the first semester following hire. If the selected candidate does not possess Canvas certification, the college will provide training.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:
Evidence of professional growth in teaching methods of American Sign Language.
Evidence of teaching using an immersion style curriculum.
Certification from a professional organization such as ASLTA, RID, or other related group.
Willingness to become involved in the daily affairs, growth, and coordination of the department and participation in campus affairs.
Demonstration of involvement with the Deaf community such as participation in Deaf events or related activities at the college level and/or in the community.
Perform other duties consistent with the faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
Professional development in understanding emerging technologies used with American Sign Language.
Experience teaching American Sign Language in an online setting or willingness to develop skills for online instruction. Familiarity with best practices for online American Sign Language immersion is preferred.
