Job Summary:
The School of Film and Media Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cleveland State University invites applications for two full-time non-tenure track Visiting Assistant College Lecturer positions in Film & Media Arts commencing August 18, 2025. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach a variety of film and media arts courses, and should have professional experience in multiple concentration areas in our curriculum: Sound, Producing, Editing, Visual Effects, Screenwriting, Cinematography, and/or Directing.

The chosen candidate(s) will teach four courses per semester as well as engage in service duties as assigned. This is a one-year contract, which may be renewed for up to an additional 2 academic years.

The School of Film & Media Arts is located on the top floor of the iconic Idea Center building in downtown Cleveland's Playhouse Square, home to the annual Oscar-qualifying Cleveland International Film Festival. The School of Film & Media Arts supports both a 72 credit BFA and a 54 credit BA which center around film studies and the creation of original work. The state-of-the-art 36,000 square foot facility includes two sound stages replete with Mole-Richardson LED lighting instruments, a 10GB network with an Avid Nexis media server, iMac postproduction and teaching labs, a sound recording booth, a multicamera studio, a 67 seat screening room with Dolby 5.1 surround sound as well as DCP, 16mm, and 4K projection capabilities, a well-equipped cage stocked with 4K cameras, grip, and electrical gear, and spectacular views of the city and Lake Erie.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in film or related field;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Professional experience in two or more of the above concentrations;
  • Demonstrable ability to teach a variety of film production, writing, and post-production courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of expertise in film & media arts;
  • Multiple years of successful teaching experience at the college or university level;
  • Evidence of currency in emerging media technologies;
  • National/international credit(s) as a department head on film, television, and/or commercial releases;
  • Terminal Degree (MFA or PhD) in Film or a related field.
