A&M's Insurance and Risk Advisory Services (IRAS) team focuses on the insurance sector. We advise insurance companies, reinsurers, distribution, services and private equity investors with M&A and transaction strategy and support, reinsurance and capital optimization, operational and financial reporting efficiency improvement, profitability and product optimization. IRAS operates in the US and Europe and supports its clients as one cohesive team globally. Our team has expertise in all insurance products and financial regimes.

You are:

A trusted advisor to clients with life, annuity, retirement, long-term care and health insurance products in the US, the UK and Europe and to private equity clients seeking to invest in or grow in those sectors. You bring actuarial expertise to create insights, price products and transactions and develop creative solutions to improve profitability and optimize capital and asset & liability management. This is an in-office hybrid role located in our New York office.

The work:


  • Lead the day-to-day execution of consulting projects and ensuring successful delivery of client requirements within the scope of the engagement, including:

    • Own the project planning and process management and communicating progress to clients and A&M leadership.

    • Drive development of the content, either directly or by providing guidance to the consulting team (for example, by sharing ideas, frameworks or providing input on research and analysis).

    • Manage the client relationship on a day-to-day basis.

    • Managing project scope and maintaining an acceptable pace of work.



  • Manage multiple client and stakeholder relationships and networking within the client organization in order to understand their needs and help to influence the client agenda.

  • Leading senior client presentations and meetings.

  • Lead and contribute to other A&M projects, for example by sharing expertise or best practices.

  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property within the Financial Services Industry including improving methodologies, tools, techniques and developing new ideas and approaches.

  • Contribute to business development efforts, including preparation of proposal documents, and attending pitch presentations.

  • Engage with Insurance and Reinsurance macro industry trends, competitive dynamics and disruptors (insurtech, digital, AI, etc.) to generate thought leadership and innovative new ideas to respond to evolving industry challenges.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to Managers, Consultants and Analysts to help develop their consulting skills, including sharing knowledge and experience, giving frequent feedback, and creating opportunities for team members to learn and grow.

Here's what you need:


  • Minimum 7 years Actuarial Consulting experience supporting Life Insurance, Reinsurance or Private Equity clients with one or more of the following areas:

    • Model development and optimization

    • Model validations and efficiency assessments

    • Actuarial transformation

    • Mergers and Acquisitions

    • Financial and regulatory reporting



  • Outstanding problem-solving acumen leveraging strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; proven ability to derive insights from large volumes of unstructured information to solve complex, ambiguous problems.

  • Proven experience leading experience leading projects and/or teams.

  • Exceptional Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related major

  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries

  • Knowledge of US Life or Annuity products, regulations, and STAT or GAAP reporting

  • Strong knowledge of Moody's GGY AXIS software

  • You're a pro when it comes to engagement - plus business, practice, and people development.

  • Good leadership, communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with long-term care insurance.

Applicants must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States.

The salary range is $135,000 - $190,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings' fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages at rates determined from time to time as well as a 401(k) retirement plan. Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive a discretionary contribution to their 401(k) from Alvarez & Marsal. Additionally, employees are eligible for paid time off including vacation, personal days, seventy-two (72) hours of sick time (prorated for part time employees), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave.
