The Role


Wood is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Piping Engineer to join our dynamic team based out of Plymouth Meeting, PA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in piping design and engineering, with a focus on biotech and pharmaceutical production facilities. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Responsibilities:



  • Design and develop piping systems for biotech and pharmaceutical production facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings and documentation using 2D and 3D software packages to produce drawings.

  • Develop equipment layouts using 2D and 3D CAD software tools.

  • Develop piping specifications in accordance with industry codes

  • Examine and validate drawings for quality and compliance

  • Evaluate vendor equipment for design applications and assist with equipment specifications

  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data for design and construction.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, architects, and construction managers, to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Perform stress analysis using industry software (Caesar II) and hydraulic calculations to ensure the integrity and efficiency of piping systems.

  • Design or select pipe support components and perform necessary calculations to verify adequacy.

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of piping systems.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards, and company and client specifications, in all aspects of piping design and installation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited College or University.

  • Educational emphasis in Mechanics of Materials, Strength of Materials, and Stress Analysis is preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in piping design and engineering, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

  • MS Office skills is required (Word, Excel)

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, BPE, cGMP).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites as needed.




Desirable:



  • Proficiency in CAD software and piping design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS) is a plus.

  • Experience with design, layout, fabrication, or installation of piping systems is a plus




Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to physical move about an Industrial Plant and be able to climb ladders, stairs, and access tight places.
