We are seeking a talented individual to join our North America Peril Advisory, Global Model Solutions & Advisory of Guy Carpenter. This role is available in our Chicago, Philadelphia, or New York City offices. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
As a key contributor, you will join an industry-leading team of scientists and engineers who are bridging the gap from technical and academic competency in natural catastrophe risk to actionable business insights and outcomes.
We will count on you to:
Develop, deploy, deliver, and adopt Peril Advisory products, supporting Guy Carpenter peril advisory experts.
Participate in multi-disciplinary and cross-functional efforts including event response, catastrophe model evaluation, risk score and tool development, product delivery and client support alongside catastrophe modeling, global analytics and advisory and broking colleagues.
Help to advance our efforts on renewable energy analytics and help build out our resiliency offerings
What you need to have:
PhD or MSc degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering with a focus on natural disasters with 3+ years of combined internship and work experience
Strong statistical background with experience in computing languages such as Python, R, and data visualization
Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills
Strong skills in Microsoft technology (Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, PowerBI, etc.)
What makes you stand out:
Knowledge in weather and climate models, stochastic or dynamical downscaling; earthquake forecasting and ground motion models (GMMs) in case of a seismology background or assessing engineering damage characteristics under earthquake, wind, fire, flood, or other natural disaster types
Computation experience in machine learning algorithms, multivariate extreme value theory, cloud computing, data engineering, emergent database technologies such as Databricks or scalable distributed processing of spatial data
Knowledge of catastrophe models leveraged in the insurance industry

Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $79,500 to $145,800.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
