Position: Accounting Manager
Direct hire/Permanent position
Location: East of Syracuse
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes with staff; works with external auditors as part of the annual reporting processes.
2. Researches accounting pronouncement and regulatory authority to ensure transactions are recorded properly.
3. Updates technical accounting job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications to continuously improve expertise in government contract accounting, DCAA accounting and related compliance requirements.
4. Reviews, implements and monitors internal controls and general operating procedures for areas of responsibility. Communicates general accounting procedures to external departments.
5. Fully understands (SME) and maintains the government contracting financial system used to manage the business.
6. Prepares and reviews daily, weekly and quarterly reports for accuracy and DCAA compliance prior to providing to management.
7. Responsible for the accurate preparation and timely delivery of internal financial statements to management
8. Properly records intercompany transactions.
9. Provides consultation and advice to designated operational department leaders. Reviews operational performance and provides recommendations and advice to improve it.
10. Prepares complete and accurate financial reports and required filings with various agencies. 11. Coordinates accurate and timely tax filings with the organization's tax accountant and legal team. 12. Works with management to properly set up the accounting and billing process for new contracts. 13. Understands how to properly administer and account for different types of contracts including fixe price, cost plus and other contract configurations.
14. Ensures the accounting staff performs the billing process timely and accurately.
15. Provides support to management during the contract bidding process.
16. Reviews payroll transactions to ensure compliance with accounting and DCAA requirements. 17. Works with management to properly calculate indirect cost and overhead rates.
18. Works in conjunction with the other departmental managers to ensure the accuracy of transaction reporting in accordance with GAAP, DCAA and to expectations.
19. Ensures accounting staff is appropriately trained. Creates and maintains General Operating Procedures for areas of responsibility.
20. Oversees the accounts payable function for the government contracting business.
21 Reviews all work performed by the accounting staff, including invoices and account analyses (reconciliations) of all balance sheet accounts for support of balances.
22. Coordinates and leads various projects relating directly to the Accounting areas in the Finance Department (i.e. software implementation/upgrades, etc.)
23. Foster a cohesive team environment among all staff of the Finance Department and Contracts business unit.
24. Develops strong working relationships across all lines of management, with key individuals in the business' operations and the external auditors.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. CPA or other professional certification preferred.
2. Minimum of 7 years' experience in Accounting or Finance related fields.
3. Some financial statement and tax knowledge a plus.
4. Industry experience in government contracting and DCAA compliance strongly preferred. 5. Knowledge and experience with contract accounting and related technical standards (GASB, SFFAS, etc.)
6. Must possess strong computer skills to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and accounting systems
