PSM Refrigeration/Utilities Lead Mechanic

Pay: $40.27 per hour

Shift & Working Hours: Day Shift; 8+ hour shifts. On call, weekends/Overtime depending on business needs.

Hiring Bonus: Total of $2,000 bonus

$400 bonus after completing 90-day probationary period

$600 bonus after completing 6 months of employment

$1,000 bonus after completing 1 year of employment

Location: Carlisle, PA

In this role, you'll be a key member of our Land O'Lakes, Inc. manufacturing team, performing maintenance of the facility and production equipment to ensure our plants can add value and quality to the inputs and creation of final high-quality products. You'll be responsible for the installation, ongoing maintenance, and necessary repairs for the facility and the production equipment. Key Responsibilities:


  • Operates and maintains in good working order all components and equipment of the Utility systems that includes but, is not limited to the anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems and Boiler Water systems.

  • Confers with operators & mechanics and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction(s).

  • Monitors performance of plant machinery and equipment for proper operating performance; performs regular and preventive maintenance, repairs, diagnoses, tests, troubleshoots, and inspections on all machinery and equipment; documents work accordingly

  • Works with Asset Reliability, Maintenance Planner, PSM Utility Mgr. and others on the ongoing development of preventative and predictive maintenance for Utility systems equipment

  • Performs daily water treatment chemical testing; logs all test results and makes adjustments required to maintain established control targets.

  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies such as but not limited to: state and federal government agencies, insurance inspectors and company inspectors.

Required Experience and Skills:


  • Must be 18 years or older

  • 3-5+ years' experience in industrial manufacturing maintenance

  • Basic computer and math skills

  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and networking of controllers

  • Strong collaboration, communication skills, and is always respectful

  • Experience with mechanical systems, utilizing product manuals, troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns, and reading mechanical drawings.

  • Current valid driver's license

Preferred Experience:


  • 3-5+ years' experience working with basic electrical systems, compressors, welding, plumbing, conveyers, hydraulics, packaging, PLC, pneumatics, preventive maintenance, and pumps.

  • Advanced Refrigeration Training and or credentials (i.e. CARO/CIRO, Operator 2, etc.)

  • Boilers license

  • Experience with basic electrical systems, boilers, air compressors, hydraulics, anhydrous ammonia refrigeration equipment, water treatment testing, both hot and chilled water systems, cooling towers, PLCs, VFDs, pneumatics, preventive maintenance, and pumps

Physical Requirements:


  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds

  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements

  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment

  • Working in temperature zones that include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include areas where dust and chemicals are present

  • Required to work scheduled shift which may include weekends, some holidays, and periodic overtime
