Job Title: Managing Director, GFO

Job Description Summary:

Responsible for oversight and management of an asset servicing/trust unit. Accountable for the performance management process and staffing for the unit. Participates in developing the strategic plan and manages the unit's expenses. Allocates client accounts to relationship managers according to client needs. Oversees provision of client services related to asset servicing, fiduciary, investment management and financial consulting. Provides leadership and guidance to employees. Holds overall accountability for performance management and career development programs.

Major Duties:


  • Oversees, plans and directs all activities for the unit. Communicates overall strategy to employees. Conducts the performance management process, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the unit.

  • Responsible for upholding corporate policies and procedures. Participates in developing objectives and strategic plans for the unit and sets goals and priorities based on Business Unit objectives; follows through to ensure that objectives are met.

  • Determines staffing needs, makes hiring and firing decisions, handles salary administration, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities. Manages expenses. Allocates client accounts to relationship managers according to client needs.

  • Serves as a key resource to Relationship Managers and Account Managers for the development of overall client strategies and relationship plans. Fosters an environment which encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.

  • Oversees client interactions and communications. Develops referral sources. May address specific sensitive or complex client needs.

  • Identifies and researches potential for cross sell and market expansion. Develops sales goals for new business. Oversees communication strategies and identification of prospective clients/business. Participates in COI calling and sales presentations.

  • Carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues.

  • Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.

  • Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and / or business knowledge and functional expertise

  • Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of business function activities

Knowledge:


  • Leadership and organizational skills to determine goals, resource needs, and to assess and develop the skills of staff.

  • Knowledge of business strategy development, asset servicing, wealth advisory and investment management acquired through work experience is required to effectively develop market.

  • Skills in negotiation, delegation and sales are necessary to serve as the lead for the unit.

  • Ability to provide long term planning and to manage the profitability/performance of a business segment.

Experience:


  • 5+ years of management experience in a financial environment is required.

  • A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required/preferred.

  • Related Industry qualification required / preferred

Salary Range:
$164,600 - 288,000 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
