Interviewers are responsible for:
Traveling frequently to selected locations to recruit selected respondents
Making in-person and phone contact to locate respondents aged 58-96 to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation
Making in-person and phone contact with selected respondents to avert and convert refusals to participate
Collecting confidential information and administering standardized questionnaires via phone and in-person lasting up to 150 minutes per interview
Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online and in-person trainings
Transmitting data as scheduled
Administering cognitive assessments (e.g., animal naming test, word recall, and counting backwards)
Administering physical function testings using dynamometer [hand-held device]
Providing verbal instructions to respondents for self-collection of whole dried blood spots using a small device and assisting when needed. Linked here is an informational video regarding this process: Dried Blood Collection - Tasso, Inc.
Providing verbal instructions to respondents for self-collection of saliva using an Oragene Saliva Kit and assisting when needed
Ensuring proper storage, handling, packaging, and shipping of bio-specimens (TASSO device and Oragene tube) according to project protocols
Managing and storing paper documents
Clearly and concisely documenting all efforts to contact and interview respondents at the end of each workday
Maintaining regular access to a reliable wireless internet connection in your home for project work
Meeting weekly with supervisor via Zoom
Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project-issued equipment
Managing and securing any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
Safeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
Assuming responsibility for and carefully tracking all participant incentives
Submitting timely and accurate Time & Expense reports
Virtually attend scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
RTI International is seeking part-time interviewers on the Add Health Parent Study (AHPS) - A Biosocial Resource for the Study of Multigenerational Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). This is a national study conducted by the Carolina Population Center (CPC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and funded by the National Institute of Aging.
Add Health Parent Study (AHPS) is an ongoing study of social, behavioral, and biological factors influencing healthy aging and the development of AD/ADRD in a national sample of adults currently aged 58-96. Sample members are parents of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) cohort, initially interviewed in early midlife (1994-95). The project is attempting to contact these sample members to interview again.

Comfortable with the following:
visible blood in the collection device. Interviewers will not draw blood themselves
viewing, handling, packaging and shipping bio-specimens (TASSO device and Oragene tube)
wearing a mask/gloves during the blood and saliva portion of the in-person visit
asking survey questions on personally sensitive subject matters
Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
Available for entire training and data collection period
Able to successfully complete training (self-guided, virtual, and in-person)
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
Able to keep project information confidential
Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
Willing to work daytime and evening hours as well as weekends on a weekly and regular basis
Ability to maintain a variable work schedule, particularly during weekday evenings and weekends, as dictated by case requirements
Able to adjust schedule to interview respondents when they are available
Must be proficient in the use of issued laptop when administering interview components
Position involves physical demands of carrying, lifting, and climbing stairs. Physical effort includes supplies and equipment up to 20lbs
Demonstrate effective organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates
Two years' experience conducting in-person interviews
Prior experience working on Add Health Study or on other surveys that involved in-person interviewing of participants about personally sensitive subject matters
Available for occasional overnight travel
Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people
Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
Comfortable working in unfamiliar areas
The data collection period is expected to be June 2025 through September 2026.
On average, you will be needed part-time approximately 25 hours per week when work is available
On average, you should be available to work in in the sample locations 5 days each week
The majority of this work is anticipated to be weekdays during daytime hours. A flexible work schedule, also including weekend and evening hours, will be required based for many case assignments.
Each of your trips to the sample locations are expected to be at least 4 hours long
Interviewers are required to complete trainings which include:
Successfully complete 30 hours of self-study by 7/3/2025 to be eligible to attend training
Successfully complete 11 hours of virtual pre-training by 7/11/2025 to be eligible to attend in-person training
Attend a 5-day in-person training tentatively scheduled from 7/14/2025 to 7/18/2025 in Raleigh/Durham, NC
Successfully complete/pass project required trainings, including home study, quizzes, and certifications
Demonstrate proficiency in performing all interview requirements
Attendance at all trainings is mandatory
