Summary/Objectives: The Plastics Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining new and legacy mold tooling.

  1. Analyzes product and tooling data to identify required solutions.
  2. Recommends process and tooling changes to improve product quality.
  3. Coordinates tooling projects with domestic and international suppliers.
  4. Oversees or conducts R&D trials on plastic molding machines.
  5. Identifies solutions with suppliers to increase productivity and reduce overall costs.
  6. Leads or participates in product and tooling design reviews.
  7. Cross functionally engages with quality, engineering, manufacturing and other teams to develop products and solutions.
  8. Adheres to all corporate engineering standards including but not limited to documentation and file management.
  9. Autonomously plans and schedules personal tasks, develops solutions to problems utilizing education, experience, and judgment.

Requirements:

  1. 1 - 5 years of experience or in similar roles or jobs.
  2. Must be a self-starter with strong leadership
  3. Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills in relating to both internal and external customers.
  5. Proficient is MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  6. Knowledge of steel machining techniques, mold design, injection mold materials.
  7. Experience in engineering design software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc).
  8. Capable of running an R&D injection molding machine.
  9. Willing to travel locally as needed and up to 10% between other Samtec locations.
Education:
  1. Pursuing Bachelors Degree in PLET, MET, or related Engineering field.
