Position Summary: 

The Material Manager is responsible for supporting the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) processes and driving production efficiency across the organization. This role focuses on optimizing production schedules, improving resource utilization, and aligning supply chain processes with overall business goals. The SIOP Leader will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of planning, production, and supply chain activities to meet customer demands while maintaining operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • SIOP Process Management
    • Assist in overseeing the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) processes to ensure seamless coordination between supply and demand across the entire production cycle. This includes working closely with cross-functional teams to collect and analyze data related to sales forecasts, inventory levels, and production capabilities, ensuring that these factors are aligned to meet overall business goals.
    • Identify potential gaps in supply or production capacity early, and recommend adjustments to the SIOP plan, such as changes in inventory stocking policies, demand forecasting, or production capabilities.
    • Continuously evaluate and refine the SIOP process, aiming to minimize inefficiencies, ensure inventory optimization, and deliver accurate demand forecasting to support timely and cost-effective production.
  • Production Scheduling
    • Develop and maintain production schedules that align with customer demands, internal production capacities, and supply chain capabilities. Ensure that resources such as labor, materials, and equipment are effectively allocated to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
    • Adjust schedules in response to changes in customer orders, supply chain disruptions, or shifts in production capacity to ensure minimal delays and timely product delivery.
    • Collaborate with production managers and supervisors to understand equipment constraints, personnel availability, and capacity planning, optimizing the schedule to meet these requirements while maintaining flexibility to handle unexpected issues.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with field partners, supply chain, production team, and strategy teams to ensure the smooth execution of the SIOP plan and production schedules.
    • Facilitate regular communication between departments, ensuring alignment of inventory levels, production capacities, and customer orders, and fostering a collaborative problem-solving approach to any issues that arise.
    • Serve as a liaison between planning, supply chain, and operations to streamline workflow and address any bottlenecks or misalignments that could impact production efficiency or customer satisfaction.
    • Collaborate with production teams about new products and to ensure timely completion and delivery of materials and components
    • Coordinate new product introduction with Operations team
    • Contribute to changes in Quality standards with Quality team
  • Inventory Management
    • Monitor inventory levels regularly and adjust them based on demand forecasts to ensure a balance between maintaining adequate stock levels and avoiding excess inventory.
    • Develop strategies with MCC Supply Chain to secure favorable terms and conditions for bulk purchases, consider facility need and capacity, optimize inventory levels, reduce lead times, and improve supplier performance.
    • Review and analyze demand signals, inventory turnover, lead times, and safety stock levels to develop strategies that minimize stockouts and ensure consistent product availability.
    • Oversee and approves purchase requisitions (Big 4, non-Big 4, spot purchases) of inventory considering facility need and capacity
  • Operational Excellence Support
    • Assist in leading continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing overall operational efficiency, including identifying opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and cost savings.
    • Support the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline workflows and reduce production inefficiencies, defects, and downtime.
    • Facilitate workshops and Kaizen events, helping teams to identify process bottlenecks and develop innovative solutions that contribute to improved production efficiency and product quality.
    • Understand equipment and technology needs based on changing future product strategy, capacity, and labor dynamics. Prepare and drive a business case for the need.
  • Performance Monitoring
    • Track and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, inventory levels, customer service performance, and operational effectiveness, using data-driven insights to guide decision-making and process improvements.
    • Continuously monitor metrics such as lead times, on-time delivery rates, inventory turnover, and production output, identifying trends and performance gaps.
    • Monitor Vendor performance and engage MCC Supply Chain team to implement corrective actions to address any issues
    • Collaborate with relevant teams to address issues identified through performance monitoring, recommending and implementing corrective actions to improve productivity, quality, and overall operational performance.

 

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations or Engineering Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience in production planning, SIOP, or supply chain management roles.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in using production planning and inventory management software.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • General knowledge of construction principles/practices required
  • Experienced dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work
  • Experience leading a successful project team, including development of employees and maintaining relationships with external entities
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time within the United States
