The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time, Translator to work Hybrid at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, FL



CORE JOB SUMMARY


The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC Behavioral and Community-Based Research Shared Resource (BCSR) team has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Hybrid Translator. The Translator converts written and spoken information from one language to another, ensuring to maintain the original meaning, format, and tone.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


Reads, comprehends, and rewrites material in designated languages preserving the original meaning. Research industry-specific terminology and use sources such as dictionaries, thesauruses, and specialized translation software. Proofreads translated texts following linguistic rules related to grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Maintains logs/progress reports to track progress of pending and upcoming translation requests. Follow up with internal team members and clients to ensure translation meets their needs. Maintains consent forms and other documentation, ensuring data integrity and consistency in computer database and written records. Attends meetings with team members as needed. Establishes and maintains contact with clients such as patient/participants, health care providers, community agencies and study/research sponsors. Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS


Education:


High school diploma or equivalent


Certification and Licensing:


Not applicable


Experience:


Minimum 2 years of relevant experience


Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:


  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.


  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.


  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.


  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.


  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.





Department Specific Functions



Translate research study materials into Spanish with great accuracy and detail in a culturally and linguistically manner appropriate for the South Florida community. Transcribe audio and video recordings for research studies. Complete quality assurance review of the Spanish translations. Collaborate with other translators to complete translations and transcriptions. Assist the lead with quotes and work assignment as necessary.



Department Specific Qualifications


Education:


Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred.


Certification and Licensing:


American Translators Association (ATA) certification preferred.


Experience:


Five (5) or more years of experience is preferred. We are seeking a translator with proficiency in Spanish.


Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:


  • Excellent communication skills.


  • Ability to work independently or as a team.


  • Strong medical and scientific background preferred.
