Job Description:




The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in critical studies of race, ethnicity, gender and/or sexuality. The Department envisions building in the areas of empire/coloniality and the political/cultural expressions of people navigating and/or resisting such transnational structures of power. We would welcome applicants who engage with approaches such as Post/De/Anti-colonial theory, Transnational Feminism, Black Queer and Womanist approaches, and/or the Black radical tradition.




The Department of Sociology will serve as the tenure home for this position. The new hire for this position would join a sociology department distinguished by its global breadth and historical bent where they would have an opportunity to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate level. They would also join a growing cohort of scholars in the department and across Harpur College of Arts and Sciences who are committed to conducting research on race, racism, ethnicity, social justice, power and structures of inequality in their diverse fields of specialization. The ideal candidate would also want to actively contribute to Binghamton's Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and/or Binghamton's Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program.

Requirements:





Required Qualifications:





  • Ph.D. in Sociology or related field on or before August 18, 2025

  • Research expertise in the areas of race, ethnicity, gender and/or sexuality

  • Experience teaching in the areas of race, ethnicity, gender and/or sexuality

  • At least three years of experience as an Assistant Professor





Preferred Qualifications:





  • Research expertise in areas of empire/coloniality and the political/cultural expressions of people navigating and/or resisting such transnational structures of power

  • Expertise in Post/De/Anti-colonial theory, Transnational Feminism, Black Queer and Womanist approaches, and/or the Black radical tradition
