Advertised Position Title:Advisor, Prior Learning Assessment Specialist
Job Description:
The Admissions Advisor, PLA Specialist will, under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Admissions, create a seamless experience to assist prospective students through the application process and first-term registration. The person in this role is responsible for the management of the applicant pipeline of prospective students and will engage in timely, high quality, proactive outreach to applicants on enrollment processes to ensure an understanding of all requirements and timelines for first-term registration.
This specialized position also includes prior learning assessment (PLA) responsibilities which include supporting the state and institutional goal of increasing meaningful credit for students by way of prior leaning assessment. The Admissions Advisor, PLA Specialist will also monitor and track PLA portfolios and transmit necessary documents to evaluators and the Records Office.
Essential Functions:
In partnership with both internal and external resources, assist students in completing their application.
Aid new students in becoming registered for their first semester of coursework.
Maintain and enhance retention through collaboration with the Advising team to help students seamlessly transition to becoming registered for future terms.
Help answer questions about areas of study, opportunities on- and off-campus, and the College in general.
Follow College communication plans from application to enrollment.
Serve as consistent point of contact to answer all questions related to PLA.
Participate in New Student Orientation and other Admissions events; these may take place during evenings and/or weekends.
Create/revise curriculum to assist students in successfully completing the PLA process.
Expand knowledge base through professional development and training efforts.
Create and maintain marketing materials and web content related to PLA.
Work with College recruiters to leverage PLA as a tool to recruit new students.
Conduct training sessions with advisors, recruiters, faculty, and academic staff to assist them in understanding the PLA process and how it benefits our students.
Meet with employers and other state agencies as requested to explain the process for petitioning credit for prior leaning.
Create campus-wide database to track the number of students pursuing PLA, including information on credits awarded, successful applications, methods used to award credit, and prepare quarterly report.
Offer campus tours when needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Superior communication skills - orally, in writing, via text, telephone, social media, and other outlets as appropriate.
Ability to work in collaboration with key College stakeholders to advance enrollment initiatives and build relationships with external partners to increase awareness of and enrollment in Owens's programs and services.
Outstanding time management skills.
Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite as well as a short learning curve for new technology.
Strong organizational skills.
Comfortable in making binding decisions that impact the success of students.
Extensive knowledge about the College, areas of study, student resources, and other College-related opportunities.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree
1-3 years of related experience.
