The Upward Bound Summer Instructors are responsible to the Director of TRIO Programs. The primary purpose is to teach the Upward Bound students during the summer program in the approved subject area. The Upward Bound summer program provides summer instruction to the Upward Bound students to prepare them for the upcoming academic year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop curriculum for the summer program for your subject area.
Teach morning courses daily from 8:00 am-12:00 pm for the core subject areas. Teach afternoon enrichment classes from 12:30 pm -2:30 pm.
Provide a pre-test and post-test for the subject area.
Maintain student confidentiality.
Record attendance and grades for each student.
Instructors are encouraged to develop exciting, hands on and innovative ways to present the subject material and encourage the students to learn, attend and participate.
Subjects needed for the summer of 2025: Morning Classes (7:45-12) Math, English, Spanish, Chemistry, afternoon (12:15-2:30) elective classes
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required and must be certified by the State of Tennessee to teach at the high school level in your certified subject area.
Experience working with first generation and/or low-income students.
Experience working with Upward Bound Students preferred.
For the Summer of 2025 an enrichment classes is needed. Prior enrichment classes have included: art, theater, robotics, finance, physics, nutrition, fitness, photography, life skills and etiquette. If interested in an enrichment class, contact the Upward Bound Staff with your idea of a topic.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions will include classroom instruction at the Dyersburg State Community College campus in Dyersburg.
Pay is $40 per hour.
No reference letters required. Must have letter from principal stating you are certified to teach.
