Job Description:

Position Summary:



Responsible for the inventory control departmental functions which include the accuracy of reports, performing root cause analysis, and presenting recommendations for corrective actions and cost savings across raw materials, packaging, and finished goods. Management of all aspects of cost accounting and inventory control ensuring that the cost structures, inventory systems, and financial records reflect the true nature of operations





  • Cost Accounting:

    • Perform cost analysis to ensure accurate costing of coffee production, from roasting to packaging, and track margin performance.

    • Analyze variances in production efficiencies and manufacturing overheads to identify cost-saving opportunities.

    • Provide detailed cost reports for management, including cost of goods sold (COGS) and profitability analysis for different product lines and SKUs.

    • Conduct operations reporting and analysis, validation of plant costing assumptions, production utilization and efficiency reporting as well as any additional cost analysis as needed






  • Inventory Management:

    • Oversee the inventory lifecycle for coffee beans, raw materials, and finished products, ensuring accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation.

    • Track inventory levels at each stage of production (green coffee, roasted beans, ground coffee, packaged products) and ensure proper accounting for raw material usage.

    • Manage monthly inventory counts, including coordinating physical stock counts and resolving discrepancies (to include third party warehouses)

    • Research variances in stocking levels reflected by perpetual inventory system as compared to actual physical inventory

    • Implement effective inventory control systems.

    • Monitor slow moving inventory and coordinate with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing and Logistics to determine appropriate disposition






  • Financial Reporting & Compliance:

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to cost and inventory, ensuring that they align with company objectives and industry standards.

    • Collaborate with the finance team to integrate cost and inventory data into the overall monthly financial close process and assist in budget/forecast preparation.

    • Ensure compliance with accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls, and industry regulations related to cost accounting and inventory reporting.

    • Assist in the preparation for audits and resolve any audit-related issues related to inventory and cost of goods sold.

    • Maintain records in accordance with HAACP Program and support product traceability audits and other related requests as needed.






  • Process Improvement & Efficiency:

    • Recommend and implement process improvements in cost accounting and inventory management to drive efficiency and accuracy.

    • Work with cross-functional teams, including Production, Procurement, and Supply Chain, to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce costs.

    • Evaluate and implement new technology or ERP systems for better cost tracking, inventory management, and reporting.






  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop junior staff members within the cost and inventory accounting team.

    • Collaborate with other departments such as Procurement, Operations, and Marketing to ensure alignment of cost management strategies with business goals.

    • Support the analysis and strategic initiatives of the manufacturing operations

    • Provide guidance to production and procurement teams on cost-effective purchasing decisions and inventory management best practices.




Requirements & Qualifications:



  • B.A / B.S. degree in business or related fields preferred

  • Minimum five years' work experience in manufacturing / cost accounting environment with inventory control and cost analysis experience

  • Thorough understanding of inventory control and warehouse management systems and procedures (inventory flow from order entry to final shipment)

  • Experience working with operational departments to ensure quality, service and inventory control

  • Excel experience required

  • ERP & Integrated systems software experience required

  • Must comply with all Federal, State, Corporate, Warehouse and Food Safety standards, policies, and guidelines (i.e., HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, etc.)
