Pay Range: Starting at $28.00/hour *based on experience

Job Summary:

 

SCA maintains a fleet of sweepers, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, pickup trucks, trailers, attenuators, and various other support equipment. This Mechanic position is an experienced mechanic position with opportunities for advancement.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Consulting and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required.

  • Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues

  • Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions.

  • Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts

  • Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated parts

  • Conducting field visits/roadside repairs in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown

  • Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance.

  • Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks around PM Structure

  • Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles

 

Job Requirements:


  • 3-5 years of mechanic experience and trade school completion, Required

  • Toolbox and basic hand tools, Required

  • ASE Certification, Preferred

  • A valid chauffeur license, Required

  • Valid CDL A or B, Preferred

  • Valid DOT Med Card, Required

  • DOT Physical Required but paid for by Company expense.

  • Advanced knowledge of vehicles, their electrical system and the mechanisms of a diesel or gasoline engine

  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms

  • Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment

  • Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics

  • Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software


  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Effective collaboration and communication skills

  • Consistent attendance, Required.

  • Use all required PPE and work safely

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work a flexible schedule, including overtime on occasion

  • Work in high noise environments with exposure to vibration and fumes

  • Active, physical work occasionally involving lifting 50 lbs. Frequently involves carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching and standing.

Requirements & Skills


  • Minimum of XX years of proven experience as a Mechanic


    • Level A = 8+

    • Level B = 5-7

    • Level C = 2-4



  • Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems

  • Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers)

  • Ability to follow established procedures, read instruction manuals, and wiring schematics

  • Must have basic hand tools for daily use

  • Commitment to adhering to health and safety regulations

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Strong physical stamina and good overall fitness

  • Positive attitude and reliable attendance

  • High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus

  • ASE certifications are preferred but not required
