The Regional Sales Manager (RSM), under the Director of External Sales, leads sales and retention efforts for all Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) product lines within the designated region. The role involves strategic planning, market analysis, and the development of sales and retention strategies for new and existing products. The RSM manages a sales team, drives business growth, ensures sales targets are met, and maintains strong customer relationships while providing exceptional service.

Compensation



$156,240 - $186,000 annually

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.





What you'll do



  • Provide coaching, training, and development to ensure team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

  • Develop and implement regional sales strategies to meet the company's growth objectives.


  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, brokers, and other stakeholders.


  • Identify key market opportunities, customer segments, and competitive threats.


  • Staff development and continuing education. Facilitates and encourages continuing education related to product knowledge and sales acumen.


  • Manages appropriate staffing levels and recruits, and trains top producing sales staff.


  • Observes and evaluates sales representatives to identify growth and coaching opportunities.


  • Monitors and reviews weekly reporting of sales staff output and production.


  • Conducts frequent reporting/strategy sessions with sales staff.


  • Oversees and controls allocated budgets.


  • Actively participates in professional organizations, such as Chamber of Commerce and various local business groups, as well as represents BCBSKS at community events.


  • Pursues personal and professional development through training and continuing education via insurance and other information sources.


  • Monitors the external environment in relation to industry competitive practices, networks, alliances, and other delivery systems.


  • Maintains a working knowledge of both state and federal legislation.


  • Carries out other duties as assigned.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to motivate and engage internal and field staff.


  • In-depth knowledge of organizational procedures, sales techniques, health insurance products, market trends, and hospital/medical practices.


  • Familiar with corporate goals, objectives, operating policies, and relevant federal and state regulations.


  • Expertise in analyzing data, understanding complex concepts, and making data-driven decisions to support business cases.


  • Proficient in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and time management.


  • Results-oriented with a focus on achieving sales targets and driving business growth.


  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and customer service skills, with a high level of professionalism and integrity.


  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strategic focus.





What you need



  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care, finance/economics, or related field.


  • In lieu of degree, minimum of 8 years' progressive, relevant experience within direct or related field.


  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in managing self-funded large and complex group health accounts. Other benefit sales and sales management or health care delivery systems preferred.


  • A minimum of 5 years' group health sales and retention experience in a competitive environment.


  • Blue Plan background preferred.


  • Proven track record in team leadership or supervisory role.


  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that qualifies for the company automobile insurance.


  • Licensed to sell health, accident, and life insurance in the state of Kansas.


  • Sign a non-compete agreement.
