JOB DESCRIPTION
SEASONAL MAINTENANCE WORKER
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision of the Road Superintendent and/or Maintenance Worker II, operates light
duty and medium duty equipment in the maintenance and repair of roadways, and/or ditches and
cemeteries; performs semi-skilled and manual labor in the maintenance and repair of roadways
and/or ditches.; and other maintenance tasks as required. Perform all work procedures with
respect to accepted safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Prefer One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in road and/or ditch maintenance and repair work
or in a related construction activity, and/or grounds maintenance or landscaping work, and/or
experience in grounds maintenance and repair methods, and the use/operation of tolls and light
to medium equipment used therein, possession of and maintain valid Ohio Commercial Driver's
license; or any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of
skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Operates light to medium equipment (e.g., chipper, dump truck, pick-up truck tractor, chipper,
roller, lawn mower, cement mixer, chain saw, weed eater, back hoe, etc.) utilized in the repair
and maintenance of roadways and/or ditches.
Performs manual labor and semi-skilled tasks associated with maintenance and repair of
roadways and/or ditches (e.g., shovels and spreads blacktop, fills pot holes with cold and hot
patch, digs trenches and ditches, shovels and plows snow, spreads salt, picks up trash and
debris, cuts brush, trees and shrubs, mows grass, open and close graves, dig and set monument
footer, etc.); flags traffic erects barricades; operate hand-held tools (e.g., chain saw, weed eater,
shovel, pick, pruning shears, transit, etc.).
Cleans and performs routine maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment; performs custodial
tasks in buildings as required; makes, installs and repairs street signs; assists mechanic as
required; performs other related duties as required.
Performs related duties as directed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge and application of (a) safety practices and procedures; (b) roadway and ditch
maintenance and repair equipment, tools, and techniques; (c) medium and light equipment
operation; (d) street sign making. Demonstrated skill in (e) operation of medium and light
equipment; (f) operation of hand-held and power tools, and light and medium equipment. Proven
ability to (g) perform routine maintenance tasks; (h) carry out detailed but basic written and oral
instructions; (i) understand manuals and verbal instruction technical in nature; (j) cooperate with coworkers
on group projects; (k) demonstrate physical strength and ability to work long hours under less
than optimal work environments; (1) work after hours when necessary.
