 COMPENSATION INFORMATION

The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.

Sr. Engineer II Pay Range: $123,700 - 135,000

Sr. Engineer Pay Range: $106,500 - $123,700

Engineer II Pay Range: $88,000 - $98,000

 Join our team as a Market Design Engineer!

The Market Design Engineer is responsible for understanding and analyzing the current Markets+ market design, evaluating the impact of proposed modifications, and leading efforts to resolve market issues. This role involves facilitating market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process, interacting with various working groups, and providing market analysis to support these changes. The Market Design Engineer will work closely with SPP Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, and Congestion Hedging departments to ensure that implemented software and processes align with the market design and comply with FERC rules and policies.

This position also involves coordinating market design changes and analysis between the Markets+ and the SPP Integrated Marketplace, while leading discussions with market participants, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs to establish market policy. The role will also support Western Market initiatives and work on education and training for junior-level staff in the Market Design team.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Market Design Understanding: Apply a thorough understanding of SPP's market rules and policies to ensure consistent execution of business functions.


  • Coordination & Communication: Engage with SPP market participants and member companies to discuss and coordinate market design issues and changes.


  • Facilitate Market Design Changes: Recommend market design changes to management, facilitating them through the SPP stakeholder process and ensuring alignment with market policy.


  • Market Analysis & Reporting: Conduct detailed market analysis to identify weaknesses and areas for improvement, and create comprehensive market reports and metrics.


  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with SPP Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, and Congestion Hedging teams to ensure market design consistency and compliance with FERC regulations.


  • Support FERC Filings: Assist in supporting FERC filings by providing relevant data and supporting the drafting of testimony and filing letters.


  • Research & Benchmarking: Research and analyze market designs from other RTOs/ISOs and Western Market initiatives to identify potential improvements or opportunities for innovation.


  • Education & Training: Develop educational materials on market design topics and support the training and development of junior market design staff.


  • Internal & External Facilitation: Lead internal and external discussions to resolve market issues and present market design changes to SPP stakeholder committees and working groups.

 To be successful as a Market Design Engineer we're looking for:


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:

    • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),

    • Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering




  • Sr. Engineer II - Nine (9) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and Advanced degree in related field

  • Sr. Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, a professional engineer license, or an advanced degree may satisfy the requirement for one year of experience.

  • Engineer II - Two (2) years of job-related work experience, not eligible for remote work

  • Competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and time keeping, as a minimum

  • Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, short circuit, or database management systems

  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills along with good written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office© Word, Excel, Access

  • Understanding and comply with compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures      

Preferred:


  • A Professional Engineer License

  • Advanced degree in related field of study

  • Electric Utility Industry experience

  • Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and/or processes

  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure

  Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:


  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:


  • This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
