Overview
Receive and log specimens and order appropriate tests based on current testing algorithm using Histotrac (HLA database) and EPIC
Processes and aliquots specimens
Bill Industrial Accounts for services using Epic System
Long-term storage of serum specimens
Prepares media and reagents
Label tubes for specimen titers (Anti-A1)
Order reagent and supplies from research stores and logistics
Unpack and stock reagents and supplies; rotate stock on shelves
Perform quality control checks on equipment, reagents, water sterility, temperature checks, pipette check, and thermocycler as assigned
Monitor refrigerator, freezer and ambient temperature in the laboratory via Aeroscout monitoring system
Initiate appropriate corrective action(s) when indicated
Wash and sterilize glassware; clean and disinfect work areas and centrifuges
Pick up samples/reagents/supplies from OHSU Main Campus as needed
Responsibilities
High school diploma and at least two years of college science courses plus one year of college math or computer courses. OR
High school diploma and successful completion of a lab Assistant Training Program including clinical lab experience.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies):
General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials and techniques, and safety.
Skill in handling of laboratory specimens, record keeping, sterile technique, and laboratory equipment.
Skill in using several different computer programs including: Word, Excel, or other similar applications, dedicated LIS (HIS)
Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately, and operate and maintain standard lab equipment.
Ability to demonstrate performance of job duties to trainees.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of clients including providers, healthcare personnel, laboratory staff and patients, and maintain a customer service focus at all times.
Ability to work independently within established guidelines, to adjust to rapidly changing priorities, to communicate and apply problem-solving skills
Ability to organize and maintain laboratory inventory and supplies.
Ability to accurately weigh chemicals and prepare reagents.
Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment
