The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Principal Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing commercial work in western US and work closely with our national commercial client-focused team and other members of Tetra Tech's global team of scientists and engineers. This is a full-time position eligible for benefits.

The selected candidate will provide program-level management and strategic leadership to facilitate growth of our commercial environmental accounts. This will include preparation and implementation of successful client opportunity pursuit strategies for Fortune 500 companies and the local/regional commercial market with a focus on environmental and civil engineering projects.

Your Role:


  • Business Development

    • Leverage your existing relationships with commercial, state, and municipal clients to secure work and grow revenue.
    • Capitalize on industry relationships/expertise/professional network to maintain and establish new relationships and ensure they are managed for growth.
    • Assess market conditions and trends and apply this knowledge to anticipate the scope and timing of major market movements to lead the identification and prioritization of specific pursuits, and secure projects.
    • Network and collaborate with ECS account leads and project managers to leverage Tetra Tech's existing relationships within industrial manufacturing, real estate, technology, mining, and energy market sector teams.
    • Network and collaborate with other Tetra Tech operating units to pursue and grow work within the commercial sector.
    • Support and provide leadership to the industrial and real estate sector account teams. This includes establishing clear objectives, milestones, and timelines for individual accounts with the Market Sector leads.
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships, achieve year over year business development growth including cross-selling Tetra Tech's services, ensure effective and efficient completion of projects on time and within budget, and deliver high quality work products.
    • Accept personal accountability for achieving growth targets within the private/commercial sector and take corrective action when necessary to achieve these goals.
  • Program/Project Management

    • Provide leadership support to Tetra Tech's commercial environmental assessment and remediation practice across various market sectors. Leadership support includes a focus on forwarding the utilization of the latest effective technical solutions in remediation and site characterization, developing business strategies that leverage these solutions, actively engaging with clients, identifying and pursuing opportunities, providing support to operations, and mentoring team members.
    • Manage projects to ensure the completion of projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications:


  • BS degree in engineering is required.
  • 20+ years' experience in environmental consulting services with at least 10 years of experience in a program management or leadership position.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in one or more states is required.
  • Dynamic, self-starter with successful experience with project and program management, business development resulting in new clients and/or new work, and strategic business planning focused on environmental remediation services for commercial clients.
  • Proven technical expertise and a successful track record in providing site assessment and remediation services with the ability to attract new business and grow key accounts.
  • Strong network of clients with established relationships within the private/commercial market sector.
  • Must have a solid understanding of the commercial environmental market sector including market potential, competition, clients, forecasting, and capture strategy.
  • Strong track record in identifying market trends and opportunities to develop pursuit strategies for specific projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing project and group finances with strong profitability.
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Target salary range: $185,000 to $205,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
