Tetra Tech is adding a Mid-Level Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist with a passion for cultural heritage, a strong background in fieldwork, experience interacting with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) and working knowledge of GIS skills

Location: Mid-Atlantic or Southeast Region (Travel Required)

Your Role:

As a Mid-Level Archaeologist, you will:


  • Conduct archaeological monitoring in compliance with established protocols as assignments are assigned.
  • Perform rapid assessments of archaeological finds and oversee excavations as appropriate.
  • Identify cultural artifacts and features, document findings, and communicate effectively with construction staff and supervisors.
  • Execute historical research and archive reviews.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and utilize digital tools such as GPS units and field tablets for data capture.
  • Track project time and manage expenses using computer systems.
  • Carry out excavation, screening, and survey tasks, including artifact recovery and curation.
  • Ensure compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Perform manual labor when conducting fieldwork, including excavation with shovels and lifting objects up to 35 lbs.
  • Support and adhere to Health and Safety (H&S) protocols, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.

  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Experienced in working with a diverse group of professionals (Project Managers, Technical Leads) on projects.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional archaeological experience in the U.S., preferably in the Mid-Atlantic or Southeast.
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification preferred.
  • Proven experience working with SHPOs.
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to communicate technical findings effectively.
  • Proficiency with digital tools for fieldwork data collection and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Section 106 compliance requirements.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions and terrains.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Desired Skills and Experience:


  • Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic and Southeast archaeological practices.
  • Experience conducting historical research and archive reviews.
  • Proficiency in artifact recovery, processing, and curation.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Computer literacy for time tracking and expense reporting.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
