The Die Cast Set-Up Technician performs duties to set-up die cast machines and trim presses to produce aluminum parts in accordance with quality specifications.


What You'll Do:

  • Information/directions from written and verbal instructions, production reporting documents, set-up sheet instructions, quality control documents, and process control plans.
  • Prep die cast machine set-ups, pull required die from storage, remove and change machine sleeve and tip; position die in machine.
  • Measure length of knockout bar required for proper ejection clearance and match it to the PIM information for the cast part.
  • Clamp die in place, attach water lines, check for proper flow and hook up hydraulic hoses as required. Confirms water lines and hydraulic hoses are not leaking.
  • Set control timers and control valves for machine speed and cycle time, set temperature on die heater as required and ensure machine safety devices are operating properly.
  • Run sample parts, inspect for proper fill and defects and refer to quality control department for approval to run parts. Run 50 good shots before turning machine over to operator.
  • Check parts according to quality control specifications to ensure quality standards are approved
  • Set-up trim presses, clean press, pull trim die and fixture from storage, measure and set die height, align and position die properly and clamp in place.
  • Adjust limit switches to set stroke, run sample parts, check and refer to quality.
  • Troubleshoot die cast machine and trim press machine problems, make necessary machine control adjustments and remove jammed castings as required.
  • Replace defective machine hose lines as necessary.
  • Pull die at end of run, clean machine platens and sleeves and place die in storage.
  • Assist in directing groups of employees engaged in operating die cast machines and trim presses.
  • Notify supervisor of unusual machine, part or quality problems.
  • Follow and ensure operators follow safe operating practices and maintain clean and orderly housekeeping conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

What We Need from You:

  • One-year previous die cast or injection molding machine operator experience
  • One to three years previous set-up experience in setting up die cast machines preferred
  • Employees are expected to work and attend in person meetings as necessary
  • Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects up to 55 pounds regularly
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic math calculations, and complete visual inspections
