This New York-based General Contracting and Construction Management firm has been established for the past 30 years, specializing within retail, hospitality, healthcare, ground-up and commercial interiors' construction nationally across a variety of markets. They are seen as the premier builder of commercial construction projects throughout the United States and Canada, having earned the business and respect of some of the nation's largest retailers and developers, including Dior, Prada, Versace, Crunch Fitness, Soul Cycle and Spotify to name a few.
Your new role
They are looking for a Construction Estimator to join their growing team in Nassau County! You will support the current estimating team of 3 whilst working independently in compiling construction estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects at any one time. Your responsibilities would include the following on a day-to-day basis:
Thoroughly reviews project bid documents and plans to get a full understanding of project scope.
Updates weekly meeting minutes notifying of new plans, bid due dates, and any updates.
Confirms all bid package requirements and ensures nothing is missed.
Review landlord requirements, including required or preferred subcontractors.
Reviews subcontractor bid list with assistant estimator to confirm the proper subs are bidding.
Confirms that subcontractor bid invites are sent out with bid deadline in mind.
Provides a trade breakdown to know what trades need to be called for pricing.
Performs all trade take-offs and unit costs in order to qualify/ quantify subs prices for bid compilation.
Generates RFIs during the bid process to engage and communicate with client and architect.
Review plans with subs to establish VE options that get shared and submitted with final bid.
Prepares cost estimates and accurate budget prior to bid deadline/ due date.
Complete project scope sheets for each trade to qualify subcontractors.
Request labor rates and some unit cost with each sub bid.
Upon award of a project, sit with the Project Manager to review scopes, buyouts, budgets to get the project started off correctly.
Coordinates a visit to the site to ensure the project schedule is compliant.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role as a Construction Estimator, you should have at least 5 years' experience in the industry delivering conceptual and/or hard dollar estimates for a range of commercial projects. You will be able to build on existing subcontractor relationships and, ideally, have an engineering, architecture or construction management degree.
