Dietary Aide Job Description
General Purpose
The dietary aide's assignments are based on the needs of the shift. This position reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.
Essential Duties
- Learn food service routines within a short period.
- Set up meal trays.
- Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
- Assist with serving meals.
- Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
- Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
- Operate the dishwasher.
- Prepare nourishments and snacks.
- Sweep and mop the kitchen.
- Dispose of trash and garbage properly.
- Store groceries safely, orderly, and cleanly.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, assisting the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
- Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
- Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
- Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel across all departments.
Supervisory RequirementsThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Language Skills
- Ability to read technical procedures.
- Ability to read and follow recipes.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
Mathematical Skills- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations- Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.
Physical DemandsThe essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional sitting.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.

- Good vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
