Job Description:

Lead our payroll team as a Payroll Supervisor with DHHS, on the Financial Services team in Lincoln! Drive accuracy and efficiency in payroll processing while guiding and mentoring a dedicated team. In this position, you will help make a significant impact within DHHS and be a part of essential behind-the-scenes work.

What you will do a Payroll Supervisor:




Manage Payroll Team:

Supervise/manage a team of 6 in processing bi-weekly payroll for over 5,000 employees.



Ensure Compliance:

Ensure all payroll procedures comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including tax filings, wage garnishments, and benefit deductions.

Reconcile Payroll Data:

Review and reconcile payroll reports, journal entries, and payroll-related general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy.



Resolve Payroll Issues:

Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and issues related to compensation, benefits, or tax withholding.

Maintain Payroll Records:

Maintain accurate payroll records and reports, ensuring confidentiality and security of sensitive employee information.

Coordinate with HR & Finance:

Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll with benefits, accounting, and compliance reporting.

Implement Payroll Systems & Improvements:

Recommend, test, and implement process improvements, system upgrades, and automation tools to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.

Audit & Compliance Support:

Prepare for and participate in internal and external payroll audits. Ensure all necessary documentation and reports are available.



Requirements/Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or related field and experience with accounting/financial management systems OR 2 years' experience with professional accounting procedures including developing and modifying accounting/financial management systems.



Preferred Qualifications: 2-4 years of payroll experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred.



Hiring rate: $24.298 - $35.818 / hr. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities




Knowledge of:



  • Payroll processing principles and practices, including compliance with federal and state laws.

  • Use of payroll software and spreadsheets for data entry and calculations.

  • Record-keeping methods and document management related to payroll.

  • Payroll tax regulations and deductions.

  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as Workday, Kronos, and JD Edwards.


Skills in:



  • Using mathematical formulas to calculate pay, deductions, and benefits.

  • Compiling payroll data into accurate reports.

  • Understanding and applying payroll policies and procedures.


Ability to:



  • Calculate and process employee pay, deductions, and benefits.

  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports.

  • Manage payroll records and ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Communicate effectively with employees regarding payroll-related issues.
