Job Summary
Coordinate and provide enhanced interactive classes for community members within a designated area. Primary responsibilities will include coordination with community partners, managing equipment/supply inventory, and oversight for program delivery aspects of the budget. Provide collaboration and co-worker assistance related to participant recruitment and teaching, learner centered co-presentations, and digital aspects of program delivery to meet the goals of the nutrition education programs in the local area.
Duties & Responsibilities
Program Outreach and Delivery • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of synchronous and asynchronous program delivery to meet the goals of the nutrition education program. • Lead the development of program partner relationships and provide approved nutrition education materials and resources to community wide agencies and organizations in and outside of physical program locations. • Serve as co-team recruiter and presenter on an ongoing basis with fellow team members while identifying potential community partners that serve low-income families. • Provide high quality, interactive teaching in the community for youth and adults using curriculum and materials. Lead digital education efforts and assist other team members on asynchronous program delivery within the unit. • Refer clients to various agencies (Family and Community Resource Centers, WIC, food pantries, schools, shelters, etc.) and to other Extension staff based upon additional needs/concerns.
Program Support • Organize the program and coordination plan and provide monthly progress updates to team members.
Lead efforts for shopping for required materials, prepping food, and assisting other team members in having program materials.
Participate in and organize committees and teams to give feedback that support the improvement of EFNEP delivery in the local unit.
Collect information from program staff and participants for reporting. Input data into evaluation systems including PEARS and WebNeers. Provide program reports as requested.
Maintain program equipment and resources inventory to ensure proper working conditions and availability for programming.
Coordinate and provide budget and tracking oversite for program food ordering, shopping and safety for staff and participants.

Maintain professional competence through required trainings and ongoing opportunities.
Perform other duties that contribute to the mission of University of Illinois Extension programming as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands
To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. A valid driver's license is preferred. Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends. When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, lifting and moving items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience in public contact with an agency or organization that is oriented toward community activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish speaking, reading, and writing skills Family Development, Community Health Worker, or similar certification Three (3) years of experience in program delivery or coordination
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to work in community based settings
Ability to utilize technology to coordinate, deliver or convey educational information
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3286 - Community Affairs Specialist I position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary for the position is $39,000.
