Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic automation systems, related equipment and instrumentation connected to the campus-wide Niagra-4 automation system. Perform general maintenance and troubleshoot field problems on the computerized Niagra-4 network. Maintain, improve, create and modify the automation systems hardware, software and dedicated equipment as needed. Normal work environment is in mechanical equipment rooms, attics, basements, and steam tunnels with some time spent in an office environment.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other event after 5 p.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays.
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm and/or shift work and/or be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or other events after 5 pm on weekdays, weekends, and holidays when management deems necessary.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use.

Automation Systems Technician I - A minimum of two (2) years of any combination of the following:-Experience working in mechanical HVAC and automated systems, refrigeration, and large building temperature controls-Related vocational educationAutomation Systems Technician II - A minimum of three (3) years of any combination of the following:-Experience working in mechanical HVAC and automated systems, refrigeration, and large building temperature controls (may or may not include time in seat as an AST I)-Related vocational educationAutomation Systems Technician III - A minimum of five (5) years of any combination of the following:-Experience working in mechanical HVAC and automated systems, refrigeration, pneumatic, electric, mechanical, electronic and large building temperature controls (two years of experience must include time in seat as an OSU AST I/II)-Related vocational educationComprehension of electronics theory and applications as well as capability to do some or all of the following: interpret, program, install, commission, troubleshoot, analyze, maintain and repair automation systems, system controls instrumentation and related equipment.Automation Systems Technician IV - A minimum of seven (7) years of any combination of the following:-Experience working in mechanical HVAC and automated systems, refrigeration, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and electronic large building temperature controls (four years of experience must include time in seat as an OSU AST I/II/III)-Related vocational educationComprehension of electronics theory and applications as well as capability to do some or all of the following: interpret, program, install, commission, troubleshoot, analyze, maintain and repair automation systems, system controls instrumentation and related equipment.Senior Automation Systems Technician - A minimum of nine (9) years of any combination of the following:-Experience working in mechanical HVAC and automated systems, refrigeration, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and electronic large building temperature controls (one year of experience must include time in seat as an OSU AST IV)-Related vocational educationComprehension of electronics theory and applications as well as capability to do some or all of the following: interpret, program, install, commission, troubleshoot, analyze, maintain and repair automation systems, system controls instrumentation and related equipment.
Technologically versatile and proficient in personal computer management skills including IP networking. General knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with IT, electrical or mechanical systems such as HVAC, hydronic and pneumatic, and various electrical, plumbing, and mechanical parts and equipment. Capable of understanding and working with and around various ranges of electricity (ex: 0-480) and troubleshooting or analyzing issues to repair, or to accurately communicate issues to another shop for further work.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and mobile technology. Must work safely and promote a safe environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Vocational/Technical Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Computer Science.
Six years of experience working in mechanical, electronic and automated systems. Two years post-secondary education in this field may count as two years of work experience.
Niagra Systems Application control language, Variable Frequency Drives and Phoenix Fume Hoods training certifications
