Bachelor's degree in related field. Four years of experience in Academic Advising or related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Serves as Senior Academic Advisor to students and helps to design programs relevant to students in their academic pursuits.
Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs, curriculum, and student success strategies. Maintains and updates student files throughout their academic careers, ensures records are accurate and comprehensive. Disaggregates student data to identify specific populations and their differentiated support needs. Uses data insights to inform retention strategies and collaborate with campus-wide retention efforts to support student success. Provides proactive retention referrals to students, offering individualized academic guidance and support. Assists other Senior Advisors with student advising caseloads (will advise cross curricular). Coordinates and lead advising efforts during orientation sessions for incoming students. Analyzes and process degree plans, degree exceptions, and academic audits to ensure students are on track with their academic goals. Acts as a liaison between students, faculty, and university constituents to foster clear communication and address student needs. Serves as a resource for academic advisors, working collaboratively with administrators, student workers, and staff to improve advising processes and services. Develops and implements advising training program upgrades that ensure best practices are implemented across the institution. Interprets university policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements to students, faculty, and administration. Communicates advising programs and services to students through individual consultations, classroom presentations, and group meetings. Prepares and presents reports on student advising activities, retention metrics, and other relevant data as needed. Undertakes special projects as assigned, which may involve data analysis, strategic planning, or other initiatives aimed at improving student services and retention. Performs other related duties as required to support student success and institutional goals. Provide Lead support in the absence of other Senior Advisors.
*Position will be in-person in Huntsville, TX.
Regular contacts with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
