Lamar University seeks a dedicated and experienced educator to join the Department of Curriculum & Instruction as a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Literacy. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of future educators by providing engaging instruction, conducting impactful research, and participating in service activities. This position will support undergraduate and graduate literacy programs, including the MA in Teaching and MEd in Literacy Leadership. Faculty members will play an active role in shaping curriculum, mentoring students, and enhancing literacy education practices.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
Teaching
Deliver high-quality instruction in literacy at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Develop and maintain course syllabi and assessments aligned with program standards.
Utilize technology effectively for online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning. Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
Research & Scholarship
Maintain an active research agenda in literacy education.
Disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations.
Seek external funding and participate in grant writing.
Service
Engage in service activities at department, college, and university levels.
Serve on committees and contribute to program development.
Mentor student educators and support experiential learning initiatives.
Key Competencies:(KSAs - Knowledge Skills and Abilities)
Strong knowledge of elementary literacy development and instructional strategies.
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Understanding of adult learning theory and effective teaching in various modalities.
Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
Job Conditions: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in a variety of modalities, advising students, serving on committees, conducting research, pursuing grant opportunities, working with preservice teachers in EC-6 literacy classrooms.

Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, with an emphasis in Literacy, or a doctorate in Literacy. (Doctoral students preparing to defend their dissertation may be considered).
Associate Professor (In addition to Assistant Professor requirements):
Six years as an Assistant Professor or current Associate Professor rank.
Established research agenda with publications and conference presentations.
Prior experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities.
Knowledge of state Teaching Certification Exams.
Assistant Professor:
EC-3 or EC-6 Certification.
Minimum of three years of elementary teaching experience, specifically in kindergarten or first grade.
Emerging research agenda.
Experience using Blackboard or similar LMS.
Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours
Texas Teacher Certification at the elementary level.
Texas Principal Certification.
Knowledge of Texas STR Certification Exam.
Experience with field supervision and experiential learning.
Prior experience with multiple instructional modalities.
