About This Role:



Lamar University seeks a dynamic and experienced educator to join the Department of Curriculum & Instruction as a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Elementary Education. The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing future educators, providing engaging instruction in multiple modalities, and contributing to innovative research and service initiatives. This position emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and leadership in elementary education, particularly in areas such as Social Studies, Mathematics, or Science. Faculty members will have opportunities to shape curriculum, guide students through experiential learning, and contribute to the advancement of teaching practices in K-12 education.



What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:



Teaching


  • Deliver high-quality instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Develop and maintain course syllabi and assessments aligned with program standards.

  • Utilize technology effectively for online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning. Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.



Research & Scholarship

  • Maintain an active research agenda in elementary education.

  • Disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations.

  • Seek external funding and participate in grant writing.


Service

  • Engage in service activities at department, college, and university levels.

  • Serve on committees and contribute to program development.

  • Mentor student employees and support experiential learning initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of elementary education theory and practice.

  • Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.

  • Effective teaching strategies for various learning environments and modalities.

  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and best practices in teacher preparation.

  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to student mentorship and academic advising.

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues on program initiatives and research.




Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.



Job Conditions: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in a variety of modalities, advising students, serving on committees, conducting research, pursuing grant opportunities, working with preservice teachers in EC-6 classrooms.Who We Are:

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):



  • Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with emphasis in elementary education, Social Studies, Math, or Science. (Doctoral students preparing to defend their dissertation may be considered.)


  • Associate Professor (In addition to Assistant Professor requirements):

    • Six years as an Assistant Professor or current Associate Professor rank.

    • Established research agenda with publications and conference presentations.

    • Prior experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities.

    • Knowledge of state Teaching Certification Exams.

    • Minimum of three years of elementary teaching experience.





  • Assistant Professor:

    • EC-3 or EC-6 Certification.

    • Minimum three years of elementary teaching experience.

    • Emerging research agenda.

    • Experience using Blackboard or similar LMS.

    • Ability to work beyond normal office hours and travel as needed.




Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):



  • Texas Teacher Certification at the elementary level.

  • Texas Principal Certification.

  • Experience with field supervision and experiential learning.

  • Interest in and commitment to experiential learning.

  • Knowledge of Texas Teaching Certification Exams
