Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Product Sustainability, Quality & Logistics in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a talented, experienced individual to provide logistic oversight at the Scientist level. Position Summary
Seeking a talented and motivated scientist to bridge logistics operations and foundational knowledge of animal health product development. This role will focus on managing the logistics of biological samples while supporting the execution of research and development processes. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure the efficient and compliant handling of biological specimens throughout the drug development lifecycle, from early research to late-stage development.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in animal health by combining scientific expertise with logistical precision.
Sample and Logistic Management: Oversee the collection, transportation, storage, and distribution of biological samples while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and quality control measures. Develop and execute strategies to optimize sample flow within the biobank and across laboratory operations.
Animal Health Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure samples and materials are effectively utilized in research and development workflows. Apply foundational knowledge of animal health product development and research processes to support project execution and logistical needs. Support the preparation and testing of biologic specimens, including serum, tissues, and swabs, for characterization and vaccine development.
Quality and Data Management: Maintain sample integrity through rigorous quality control procedures and manage inventory systems to track sample conditions and locations. Ensure accurate documentation and data entry in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other databases.
Project Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, clinical trial operations, and external vendors, to develop logistical plans. Contribute to the preparation and writing of technical reports and regulatory filings.
Qualifications:
BS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 5 years industry experience.
Ability and comfort with learning/using lab automation, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and online Inventory databases.
Experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably within a laboratory setting.
Established technical laboratory skills (pipetting, aseptic technique, unit conversions, adherence to protocols, etc).
Strong self-motivation, organizational and coordination skills.
Capable of working with minimal oversight in a cross-functional environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Experience with automated high throughput sample preparation and analytical assays.
Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.

Work environment:
The placement of this position will be primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. Occasional travel to other Zoetis sites may also be requested.
The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
