McCoy Construction & Forestry, a John Deere dealership group with 25 locations across the Midwest and East South Central Regions, has an opening for a APEX Technology Support Engineer.
The Technology Support Engineer is responsible for the after-sale performance and technical support of all SmartGrade™ and integrated grade control equipped machines. This position must have a highly technical understanding of the John Deere SmartGrade™ system, as well as applicable Topcon™ products that work in conjunction with SmartGrade™ equipped machines. This person must be able to diagnose and resolve issues both on-site and/or remotely and follow the issue(s) to resolution. This position will require a working understanding of other types/brands of integrated grade control (IGC) systems as well as other related construction technology solutions and should be able to trouble shoot as it relates to John Deere and SmartGrade™. This position will work with management to provide or assist in providing extensive training both internally and externally for the operation and support of SmartGrade™ and related grade control products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not in order of priority):
Support construction sites for automated machine control and construction layout
Support and diagnose SmartGrade™ and related grade control issues and make appropriate repairs
Communicate effectively with John Deere and other applicable technical support personnel to successfully resolve customer's issues from start to finish
Consistently demonstrate and utilize remote support tools such as John Deere SmartGrade Remote Support or equivalent 3rd party software whenever applicable
Communicate developing or existing hardware/software concerns related to SmartGrade™/IGC to appropriate MCF departments
Actively support the Precision Technology Manager and territory managers within their respective areas to promote, demo and sell SmartGrade™ machines
Assist in training territory managers to conduct SmartGrade™ demonstrations
Complete & maintain all OEM and government certifications expected or required
Plan, prepare, and conduct in-field demonstrations and classroom training of grade control solutions for both construction professionals and MCF staff as required
Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service
Seek additional sales, parts, and service opportunities for MCF and report those prospects to the appropriate parties
Education, Skills & Knowledge Required:
4 yr Degree is not required, its recommended, in an Engineering/Technology/Marketing discipline or equivalent experience
5 years preferred of Topcon Machine Control and Construction experience
Experience with construction layout using GNSS or Robotic Total Stations. Knowledge of site blueprints, grade stakes, and construction workflows
Familiarity with Topcon, Trimble, and/or Lecia technologies
Enthusiasm for technology and heavy equipment
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to execute training in small group or one on one settings
Willingness to travel within assigned territory (Up to 75%)
Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
Able to lift to 30lbs
