About the Company - Our client, a Capital Provider, is seeking an Underwriting Manager in their Iselin, NJ location.
About the Role - We are specifically looking for a bridge lending and DSCR underwriting manager with the following qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage underwriting operations for fix & flip, DSCR, and bridge loans
Develop and maintain standardized underwriting procedures for consistency and efficiency
Assess credit risk effectively while balancing business needs and investor requirements
Leverage AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and streamline workflows
Manage underwriting data and analytics to track trends and improve risk assessment
Collaborate with Sales, Processing, and Capital Markets to align underwriting with investor buy-boxes
Lead, train, and scale the underwriting team, including the India team
Set clear escalation guidelines to reduce bottlenecks while maintaining strong risk oversight
Qualifications:
5+ years of underwriting experience in bridge lending & DSCR loans - Needs deep familiarity with asset-based lending, property cash flow analysis, and investor financing structures.
Private lending or non-agency underwriting background - Experience working with private lenders, debt funds, or alternative lending platforms, not just traditional mortgage banks.
Proven ability to independently sign off on loans - Someone who makes underwriting decisions autonomously without excessive hand-holding.
Management & leadership experience - Has successfully trained or managed other underwriters and overseen underwriting pipeline workflows.
Strong risk analysis skills - Should go beyond guideline checks, identifying potential risks and structuring loans accordingly to meet investor requirements.
Comfortable with offshore management
Experience working with secondary market buyers/investors - A plus if you understand how loans are packaged and sold.
Knowledge of complex deal structures - Exposure to secondary financing, mezzanine structures, or risk-adjusted pricing strategies would be ideal.
