Pay Rate: $100.00 - $122.80 per hour

Description:

Our client's Customer Grid Edge (CGE) Organization is looking for a Product Strategy Consultant to support the development of solution requirements for the end-to-end AMI 2.0 platform. This role will also offer technical guidance in assessing AMI 2.0 technologies as Company continues testing these products in both lab and field environments. In this position, the successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to gather and define business and technical requirements, ensuring that solutions align with organizational needs. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in evaluating products to validate functionality, usability, and performance in accordance with Company's AMI 2.0 business requirements and use cases.

Solution Requirements Development Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and co-lead requirements gathering: Work closely with internal teams, business stakeholders, and technical experts to gather, analyze, and document AMI 2.0 solution requirements. Ensure alignment with business goals and use cases.
  • Define and structure requirements: Assist in translating business needs into detailed functional, non-functional, and technical specifications that serve as the foundation for solution development and vendor engagement.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Engage with cross-functional teams, including IT, Metering, Field Services, Distribution Engineering and Planning, and System operations, to ensure all perspectives are considered in the requirements development process.
  • Develop key artifacts for RFP documentation: Support the creation of comprehensive documentation, including system specifications, use cases, and evaluation criteria, to be included in the AMI 2.0 Request for Proposal (RFP) package.
  • Ensure requirement traceability: Support tracking requirements from inception to implementation, ensuring that all business and technical needs are met throughout the requirements development lifecycle.

Product Evaluation Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical governance for functional testing: Oversee and enforce best practices in functional testing to ensure that AMI 2.0 technologies meet product and system requirements.
  • Test Case Execution Guidance: Guide the execution of test scenarios, ensuring thorough validation of AMI 2.0 system functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate with development and product teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams to refine requirements, address testing gaps, and enhance product maturity through iterative testing cycles.
  • Participate in solution evaluation: Support the assessment of AMI 2.0 technologies by validating their alignment with business objectives, functional requirements, and use cases. Provide insights and recommendations based on test findings.
  • Ensure test environment readiness: Assist in setting up and maintaining test environments that align with current and future testing needs.
  • Support field and lab testing initiatives: Engage in both lab testing and field demonstrations to assess product performance under varied operational conditions.

Required Skills/Attributes

Technical Skills:
  • Meter Device Management: Knowledge of meter head-end systems (HES) and device management principles that are scalable and interoperable.
  • AMI 2.0 System Architecture: Understanding of principles related to AMI 2.0 architecture and integration with key sub systems, including but not limited to MDMS, DERMS, ADMS and OMS.
  • Electric Utility Industry: A solid understanding of the electric utility sector, including its challenges, regulations, and business models.
  • Industry Standards: Knowledge of key industry standards that support interoperability across metering systems, communication networks, and IoT devices.
  • Smart Grid Concepts: Knowledge of smart grid components, such as smart meters, sensors, and communication networks.
  • Emergent Technologies: Knowledge of emergent technologies related to AI/ML and distributed intelligence and computing
  • Distribution Management Systems (DMS): Understanding and working with DMS software is crucial. DMS helps monitor, control, and optimize the distribution network in real time.
  • Distribution Automation: Familiarity with automation technologies used in grid management, such as fault detection, isolation, and restoration systems.
  • Operational Technology (OT): Knowledge of OT systems, including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), and communication protocols.

  • Communication: Effective communication is essential for collaborating with stakeholders, and team members.
  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to analyze complex data, identify patterns, and make informed decisions.

Desired Skills/Attributes
  • The ideal candidate should possess technical expertise in next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), with a strong background in developing technical requirements and driving product innovation.
  • Specialized knowledge in distributed edge computing and analytics within AMI meters, sensors, and related distribution apparatus is essential.
  • Additionally, familiarity with emerging industry standards, including metering and communication protocols, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and IoT platforms, is preferred.
  • Experience with key specifications such as DLMS/COSEM, ANSI C12.1 series, OCPP, IEEE 2030.5, 3GPP communication, and Mesh networks is advantageous, with a demonstrated ability to apply these standards in practice.
