Role Purpose:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sales Director to lead for the U.S. Resilience Environment Business Area during this pivotal phase of growth. Reporting to the Global Growth Director for Resilience, the ideal candidate will be passionate about driving substantial business expansion and further energizing our sales strategy, both within our existing and strong client base and established solutions and through new business opportunities with new clients and emerging solutions like Energy, Climate and Sustainability. This is a critical role with an immediate focus on revenue maximization and diversification of services and is also part of the Environment Senior Leadership Team in the US.

As the Sale Director for one of Arcadis' largest Business Areas globally, you will be a visionary leader with deep market knowledge in one or more of our core practices and with a relentless focus on our people and on our clients as we solve our clients most challenging problems through the world class projects we deliver. You will have the ability to inspire a large team of professionals - driving performance and delivering results. The position requires coordination and collaboration across Arcadis from the Sales Directors for the other Business Areas both in the U.S. and globally, our Business Unit Directors and our technical leaders to name a few.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Driving growth through a relentless client focus, strong market position and forward-looking growth strategy.
  • Leading the team in maintaining strong client relationships, identifying and winning major pursuits and expanding our market presence.
  • Identifying new service areas and market segments to diversify offerings and expand revenue streams.
  • Maximizing the our relationship with existing clients by uncovering new needs, expanding current services, and establishing long-term partnerships.
  • Leading, inspiring, and managing a high-performing sales team to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to align sales strategies with overall company objectives.
  • Monitoring and analyzing market trends and competitors to ensure the company stays competitive and relevant.
  • Supporting project risk management, performance and active cash management from contracting terms to invoice and payment support.
  • Driving the sales pipeline and ensure accurate forecasting and reporting of sales performance.
  • Supporting alignment with the project delivery teams for resourcing needs and skills.
  • Leading identification and development of talent and promoting career development including leveraging appropriate development programs.
  • Overseeing and participating in people management across the sales organization including hiring, onboarding, development and performance manamgent.
  • Proving strong leadership and communication connecting with, managing, mentoring, inspiring, and leading the advancement of the sales team.
  • Being a visible steward of Health & Safety by completing required stewardship and being a strong Health & Safety mentor.

Key Qualifications:

  • You should be an inspiring and recognized leader with at least 15 years of experience leading a fast-growing business function and a proven track record of success in sales leadership within a consultancy or professional services firm.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive growth in an established and large business, with an emphasis on maximizing existing client relationships.
  • Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to identify and execute on new service offerings and market opportunities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Results-driven with a focus on long-term, sustainable growth.

Reporting Lines: The Business Area (BA) Resilience Sales Director reports directly to the GBA Sales Director Resilience with a dotted line to the US Environment BA Director

Role accountabilities:

Lead BA Sales:


  • Ultimate accountability of sectors and accounts hosted in the US Environment
  • Manage sales pipeline, priority setting, and reporting in alignment with global reporting standards.
  • Implement Resilience strategy in the US
  • Manage people (incl. performance reviewing).
  • Lead BA sales within the country to profitably grow order books.
  • Ensure development and implementation of sales & account growth strategies for the US
  • Stress-test growth plans when all put together from a country perspective (reactive).
  • Translate market trends (within and across the BA's) into client actions

Develop sales excellence:

  • Develop and nurture a talent pool of salespeople.
  • Implement sales excellence processes and approach incl. account plan reviews, performance assessment and utilizing harmonized processes developed by the global growth team.
  • Share best practices in sales and account management with the wider sales community (in Canada and globally) to allow others to learn and benefit.
  • Improve to balance cost of sales with results.

Act as a role model:

  • Ensure active participation in company-wide programs, e.g. executive sponsor program, marketing campaigns, client experience survey, and key account program
  • Fully support global key account pursuits within the BA and prioritize resourcing of key accounts.
  • Ensure smooth and structural collaboration with other BA Sales Directors, City Executives, and sector and account teams of other BAs.
  • Stimulate cross-selling with other BA's through all appropriate sectors and account teams.

Key shared accountabilities:

  • Together with the GBA Sales Director and the BA Director to determine and deliver the growth strategy for the US.
  • Coordinate with other Country Sales Directors to capture cross-GBA opportunities, to develop and implement integrated country-specific propositions, and for country-specific Go-to-Market approaches. Work with the BA Director and the Country Sales Directors in the development of sales strategies.
  • Work with marketing to develop and implement marketing strategy (campaigns, events) for the BA in the country.
  • Work with HR for recruiting of Account Managers for BA key clients.

Qualifications & Experience:

The candidate should have a bachelor or master's degree and significant experience in market to opportunity, pursuit to win, and account and client management within a multinational engineering or professional services firm.
The candidate should have a solid US market understanding in at least one of the Resilience focus areas: Environment, Climate or Energy. The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of developing and implementing sales strategies to profitably grow client accounts. The candidate will be able to demonstrate significant leadership capability and the ability to inspire multi-disciplinary teams around a common purpose

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $164,063 - $251,564.. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
