Department Purpose

A&O Shearman is widely regarded as one of the best infrastructure and energy project finance legal advisors globally, including in the United States. Our award-winning Energy Natural Resources and Infrastructure ("ENRI") team has been named 'Global Legal Advisor of the Year', and a No. 1 advisor for 19 infrastructure finance and project finance categories. A&O Shearman has acted as counsel to infrastructure and energy fund investors, developers, strategic and other equity sponsors, public agencies and lenders in projects in multiple U.S. jurisdictions and across various sectors, including transportation, traditional and renewable energy, water, social infrastructure and telecommunications. Role Purpose

A&O Shearman seeks an accomplished associate to join its Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure practice. Ideal candidates for this position will have 2-4 years of solid experience advising lenders and project sponsors on complex, cross-border projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and experience in debt, equity, and multi-source financing. In this role, associates will be expected to work on a variety of deals.



Role and Responsibilities


  • Drafting, reviewing and amending documentation.

  • Providing strategic guidance to clients through strong market awareness and an understanding of key objectives.

  • Managing client expectations, deadlines and project delivery appropriately.

  • Collaborating across teams, departments and jurisdictions in a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment.

  • Matter (or sub-section) management and maximizing financial contribution.

  • Leadership and supervision of junior team members.

  • Recognizing opportunities for business development, assistance with and implementation of group and firm-wide business development strategies.

  • Proactive engagement with clients both on and off deal with a view towards building and maintaining strong client relationships.

  • Legal and sector knowledge development and sharing (internally and externally).

  • Assisting with billing activities and timely invoicing.


Team

This individual will report directly to the ENRI partners in the DC and NY offices and will work closely with other members of the ENRI team globally.



Minimum Requirements

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree (LLM or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school.

  • Must be admitted, and in good standing, to the bar in the jurisdiction in which you will practice; or must provide written confirmation as to ability to become admitted in that State or District.


Preferred Requirements

  • Class years 2023-2021.

  • Analytical, research, and writing skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage your time effectively.

  • Experience in at least one of: Project finance related work; or Infrastructure acquisition work.

  • Evidence of an interest in Energy and Infrastructure allied to strong technical knowledge across multiple disciplines.

  • Strong business acumen.
