JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager of Cement Terminals, the Terminal Supervisor oversees the safe and efficient operation of Martin Marietta's Odessa Cement Terminal as well as terminals in Eastern New Mexico and Lubbock, Texas. This position will be based in Odessa, Texas. The Terminal Supervisor will assist in the daily production and problem-solving operational functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead, direct and coordinate the efforts of the team towards a common goal as set forth in the business and profit plans
Responsible for decision making and solving daily production issues
Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, contract haulers, railroads, and employees, including cement production, distribution, sales and customer service
Responsibility for safety of all personnel in chain of command, ensuring the completion of hazard & risk assessment, monthly safety suggestions and observations, use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), etc.
Responsible for keeping assets in working condition
Maintain appearance and housekeeping of terminal areas and equipment
Responsible for planning, staffing and coordinating repairs of equipment
Perform regular walk through inspections for safety, housekeeping and mechanical issues
Implement and apply all safety rules, regulations and procedures set forth by OSHA, company and terminal policies
Supervise the team to meet all job requirements and company/plant standards
Responsible for engagement of employees; holding them accountable for company standards
Develop, train and empower all terminal employees
Execute performance appraisals, salary administration, disciplinary actions and other employee relation activities
Assist with inventory reconciliations
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Seven years' experience in shipping or cement industry
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
College degree preferred or high school diploma with equivalent in years of experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be knowledgeable in computers, basic operating systems software (Microsoft Server, Windows, MS Office, MRP)
Exercise sound judgments in problem solving, independent decision making, form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, and wisely and prioritize conflicting demands
Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with all levels of management and staff, other plant work teams and customers
Ability to direct, motivate and coach activities of others in a team environment
Strong written/verbal communication skills, as well as the development of formal presentations
Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language
Excellent work ethic - high standard of performance and production
Acting with integrity, truthfulness, fairness, and trustworthiness in every facet of the job
Ability to work other than day shift and be subject to call outs after hours
Must abide by OSHA, EPA and other governmental laws
Ability to travel by pickup in fulfilling responsibilities up to 300 miles or more per day at times
Able to reason through difficult operations problems, make decisions and resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
Ability to not only use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, but set standard for others to follow by example.
Must understand and comply with lock-out /tag-out/try-out procedure and safety requirements
Must understand and comply with working at height and safety harness/lanyard procedures and safety requirements
Demonstrated mechanical and or electrical trade skills a plus in the qualifications application for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be available to walk, crawl, kneel and climb ladders/stairs to inspect facilities and to observe/supervise work activities
Climb up to 350 feet above ground on ladders, stairs, scaffolding and / or aerial lifts
Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
Capability of working for long periods of time under working conditions defined below, confined spaces and heights
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbent may be exposed to hazards, e.g. vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights, traffic, etc.
