The Physical Activity & Women's Health Lab, led by Professor Kara Whitaker in the Department of Health and Human Physiology, has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Assistant/Lab Manager for a multi-center observational cohort study. This study investigates the relationship between sedentary behavior, physical activity, and sleep patterns during pregnancy and their impact on children's growth and cardiovascular health. It will be critical for the individual in this position to be able to interact comfortably with parents and young children (age 2).
This is a one-year Specified Term position with the possibility of extension based on funding and lab needs.
Key Responsibilities
Perform study procedures including but not limited to assessing height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse wave velocity in mothers and their children (age 2).
Perform all aspects of human subject research coordination including recruitment, consenting, screening, enrollment, and testing.
Manage day-to-day operations of the lab, including maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities.
Collect, manage and analyze data, adhering to quality controls.
Train and supervise new lab members.
Participate in study meetings and perform additional lab tasks as needed.

Education Required
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field (e.g., health and human physiology, exercise science, public health, nursing, etc.).
Required Qualifications
Experience and comfort working with young children (age 2).
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrated experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs and the ability to learn new skills quickly.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, strong organizational skills, and accurate record keeping.
Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends to accommodate participant schedules.
Desired Qualifications
Minimum one year experience in a research or clinical setting.
Interest in life-style related research.
Familiarity with REDCap and Epic.
Knowledge of IRB documentation and processes.
Experience with pediatric and adult anthropometric and blood pressure measurements.
Knowledge of methods to assess arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity).
Research experience with physical activity assessment and/or child health.
