Job Summary:

Responsible for conducting routine inspections of fire extinguishers and emergency shower/eye washing stations to ensure proper functioning and compliance with government health and safety laws and University policies and procedures. Compiles, reviews and updates data to assist with preparing reports. Performs data entry and helps maintain required documentation.Reports information to appropriate supervisor.



Responsibilities:



  • Inspect fire extinguishers and emergency shower/eye washing stations by computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), when initially placed in service, at 30-day intervals thereafter, and at more frequent intervals when circumstances require.


  • Use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to record location and related information about equipment to be inspected and monitored.


  • In adherence to Facilities Services procurement procedures expedite arrangements to charge, fill, maintain, recharge, refill, repair and test fire extinguishers with appropriate contracted service provider.


  • Establish and maintain a stock supply of fire extinguishers for immediate exchange in the Facilities Services Inventory warehouse.


  • Identifies and prepares work request for broken or damaged equipment or building components seen during inspections and monitoring.


  • Perform annual physical inventories of fire extinguishers in assigned areas.


  • Other duties as assigned.

    Education. Experience, or Certifications:




    Education:



    • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution, required.




    Certifications:



    • Must have a valid driver's license and successfully complete the University's Motor Vehicle Records background check process is required.

    • Other licenses or certificates needed for this position as required by law required.




    Technical Knowledge or Skills:



    • Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical functions relevant to the position and have good problem-solving skills required.

    • Regular computer use for data entry tasks, required.

    • Must be able to use or learn a range of position-related software applications required.

    • Demonstrated skill working with Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook required.

    • Must undertake OSHA Outreach 10-hour General Industry Training Course and other training related to job duties within 6 months of hire required.




    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:



    • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and be physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time.

    • Must be able to lift and move loads appropriate to job requirements and be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for periods of time.

    • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, be capable of working at heights as required, be able to enter and work within tight spaces, and be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures.
