Specific Position


Purpose: An advanced practice provider that will work in an outpatient urology clinic in collaboration with 3 urologists and 1 APP. This APP is a strategic priority to increase and manage adult urology patient volume in our area by providing increased access to urology providers.


Specific Preferred


Skills: Nurse Practitioner - Master's Degree in Nursing. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent body or currently licensed as an advanced practice nurse in the state of GA by the Georgia Board of Nursing Advanced Certification in the specialized area if required. Current American Heart Association, Basic Life Support(BLS). Must be fully credentialed by the credentialing office to work. OR Physician's Assistant - Graduated from an accredited Physician's Assistant program. Certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Licensure to practice medicine through the GA Composite Medical Board Must maintain status as a certified PA, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education and re-cert. Advanced Certification in the specialized area if required. Current American Heart Association, Basic Life Support(BLS). Must be fully credentialed by the credentialing office to work.

Duties Assigned: Patient care responsibilities: a. Perform history and physical examination b. Perform consultations and present appropriate information to Attending Surgeon c. Write admission orders and perioperative orders d. Record progress notes, procedure notes, and brief operative notes e. Acquire/analyze patient care data and information, then present findings/recommendations to attending surgeon f. Evaluate new patients and established patients in the clinic setting g. Appropriate prescription provision in accordance with DEA regulations and Georgia state laws h. Placement of drains and catheters as directed by attending Surgeon i. Provide patient education and family counseling regarding health care plans and procedures


j. Perform Urodynamic studies two to three times per week (training will be provided if necessary) k. Perform clinic cystoscopy procedures (training will be provided if necessary) l. Perform urology clinic point-of-care laboratory testing urinalysis and semenanalysis (training will be provided if necessary) m. Initiate and operate Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction Clinic n. Check outstanding lab cultures for outpatients and inpatients o. Schedule patients for diagnostic tests and surgeries and coordinate patient visits to other clinics 2. Respond to telephone calls and provide a triage service to patients and families 3. Assist with in-office outpatient procedures such as vasectomy's and perform FUDS procedures independently. 4. Establish a formal referral process for all outlying hospitals in the region and areas served by our Satellite Clinic System for patient transfers and consultation 5. Become the recognized contact person for Urology Support Groups 6. Act as the regional source for information and patient education for Urology 7. Assist resident team with weekly organization of preoperative history and physical, radiologic studies, laboratory studies, outside facility records, medical clearance for all surgical cases for the coming week 8. Coordinate with surgical scheduling personnel and operating room with the completion of surgical directives, operative dates, preoperative appointment scheduling, and OR block time availability. This includes working with urology team to move from a paper to an electronic OR scheduling system. 9. Provide support to surgical house staff relating to patient care, patient discharge, patient education and patient consults. 10. Assist in teaching medical students, physician assistant students, surgery interns and residents. 11. Participate in on-going competency and on-going education programs in the Urology Clinic.
