About the Role
Our client, a municipal utility in Independence, MO, is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer III or IV to join their Power & Light Engineering Team. This role is ideal for a skilled engineer who is solution-oriented and thrives in a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
As an Engineer III or IV, you will be responsible for leading complex engineering projects, overseeing system design and maintenance, and mentoring junior engineers. You'll play a key role in planning and developing engineering solutions for power distribution challenges, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving capital and system improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert in power distribution system engineering
Lead the design, development, and execution of capital projects
Perform research and field investigations to evaluate system protection and reliability
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to lower-level engineers
Develop project drawings, evaluate costs, and write technical specifications
Ensure projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations
Supervise consulting engineers and construction contractors
Review project alternatives, oversee construction work, and recommend awards for bids
Qualifications
Engineer III:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited institution
6+ years of utility/power systems engineering experience (or 4+ years with a Master's degree or PE license)
FE Certification required; PE License in Missouri preferred
Experience in municipal power distribution system design and maintenance
Engineer IV:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited institution
10+ years of power systems engineering experience (or 8+ years with a Master's degree or PE license)
FE Certification required; PE License in Missouri highly desirable
Strong expertise in power distribution system design, operation, and capital projects
Additional Requirements
In-depth knowledge of NERC compliance, NESC, and NEC regulations
Strong project management, cost estimation, and statistical analysis skills
Ability to analyze and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications
Valid driver's license required
Must complete NIMS training within six months of hire
Compensation & Benefits
Engineer III Salary: $84,936 - $127,405/year
Engineer IV Salary: $93,431 - $140,146/year
