Key Responsibilities:
Lead and Manage RD&T Team: Drive the achievement of global business objectives by effectively managing and guiding the RD&T team, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with company targets.
Team Development and Performance Management: Oversee team capabilities, including task assignments, training, performance evaluations, and leave management. Ensure fair and consistent performance reviews and continuous professional development.
Product and Technology Development: Manage assigned projects, contributing to the successful and timely launch of commercially viable products, ensuring that new technologies meet market needs.
Intellectual Property & Documentation: Secure and manage company intellectual property. Prepare technical content such as white papers, tech briefs, and disclosure filings.
Design and Manufacturing Process Oversight: Lead the design process for mechanical parts, including material costing, quoting, analysis, and scheduling. Collaborate with operations to ensure new designs are manufacturable and meet business requirements.
Performance Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate team and individual performance, provide actionable recommendations, and implement improvement plans to foster team growth and productivity.
Budget and Compliance Management: Oversee team budgets, monitor monthly results and expenses, and ensure compliance with Smiths Interconnect's EHS policies and training.
Process Improvement and Optimization: Recommend and support changes to systems, tools, and processes to enhance business performance and operational efficiency.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams to manage the product lifecycle, drive product design changes, and support customer-facing technical content (e.g., literature, data drawings, application information).
Global Collaboration: Partner with shared services and cross-functional teams across geographies to improve organizational capabilities and expand team effectiveness.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical with Mechanical focus); a higher degree is preferred. 10+ years of relevant experience in engineering and product development.
Technical and Product Roadmap Development: Expertise in developing and managing technology/product roadmaps tailored to market and customer requirements.
Leadership and Team Management: Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate high-performance teams in a global, multicultural environment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong ability to build effective partnerships with key stakeholders, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring smooth product development and business operations.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effectively reporting to management and customers at all levels. Strong presentation and project status update abilities.
Project Management: Track record of managing projects from order receipt to delivery, meeting tight deadlines and ensuring timely execution.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D modeling software), FEA analysis, and a solid understanding of GD&T, ANSI/ASME standards.
Process Improvement Tools: Experience with Six Sigma, LEAN, or equivalent methodologies is highly desirable.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
Global Team Coordination: Ability to work with a flexible schedule across different time zones within an international RD&T group. Up to 20% travel, including international travel, may be required.
